SNAKEBLADE – THE KINGDOM (Review by Varg The Mighty)

Canadian One-Man Black Metal band Snakeblade will release this 31st of July its debut album, “The Kingdom”.
Unlike most One-Man Black Metal projects, this one focuses more on Black Thrash than on the pure branch of the genre. This approach to the genre isn’t similar to the classic bands like Desaster or Aura Noir though, it reminds me more of the modern acts like Skeletonwitch, with the same amount of virtuosity, but this one leans more towards Black than towards Thrash as it is most commonly done.
Besides the elaborate guitars, you can also appreciate the slightly low quality, restlessly pounding drums that make this genre great. Also, the vocals sound great but, for some reason slightly feminine, similar to the ones in Nervosa, but this high-pitched voice fits greatly with the music and don’t seem out of place in the genre.
This album looks like a great start for a band, with an excellent showcase of skills and no filler tracks, and it has the right amount of originality as to sound fresh but without being too innovative. Hopefully we can hear more from this project, and maybe in some future live gigs with session musicians, but at the moment what we have over here is perfect. I recommend this if you’re a fan of Black Thrash Metal.
