ALTER IDEM – FRAGMENTS OF CONSCIOUSNESS (Review by Varg The Mighty )

Australian Brutal Technical Death Metal band Alter Idem have released their debut EP, 4 songs that show pretty well what to expect in future releases.
Consisting on hundreds of breakdowns, total dissonance, pig squeals and slow and heavy riffs, this EP doesn’t really bring any innovation to the genre, but instead lays its foundations deep in a perfectly known and explored land.
Even with this lack of originality and average approach, you can appreciate a considerable effort inverted on this songs, since the virtuous display doesn’t remain unnoticed, as seen in the solos or technical drum patterns.
These songs show us the typical modern Death Metal band doing what they do best, with unexpected twists and gory music that reveal the zeitgeist of the genre.
I recommend this EP to fans of Brutal and Technical Death Metal, together with any other modern approach to Death Metal that does not crossover with other genres.
