COUNTING HOURS – THE WILL (Review by Varg The Mighty )

Today’s review is of Finnish Depressive Black Doom Metal band Counting Hours’ upcoming debut album “The Will”, to be released on October 23rd.
Being mostly Depressive Rock, this band transcends the Lifelover cult to add elements of “Discouraged Ones”-era Katatonia, or Paradise Lost and other Gothic Doom bands to this already curious style. One would even argue that they have some Progressive touch to it in the style of Amorphis, and this whole mix gives a very interesting and unique result.
With a soft and gloomy Gothic voice that is punctually combined with harsher guttural parts to give it a darker touch, this album definitely achieves the aura intended with no filler songs with the help of very melancholic and ethereal riffs that take away little to no strength to the elegant combination. The songs I highlight from this album are “Profound” and “Buried In The White”.
I definitely recommend this album to fans of Black Doom, Depressive Rock, Gothic Metal and Gothic Death Doom, it is a very elaborate and dark album worth listening to.
