BURGÛLI – RUNES (Review by Varg The Mighty )

Today’s review is of Catalan Unholy Black Metal band Burgûli’s new EP, “Runes”.
Following the low quality of previous releases, maybe to an even more depraved extreme, these 4 tracks have the sound of early 90’s zeitgeist, maybe even excessively on tracks like “El Vell Rei Del Fred”, but generally nice to hear.
Most of the EP is quite enjoyable, with basic drum patterns and tremolo picking combined with dissonant chords under a demented voice, but on the track “The Dark Host” there is a Black Ambient part that breaks a lot the essence of the music, despite this being a characteristic of the project.
Overall this is a decent album, even if it should really be considered a demo because of the quality and the performance, so I recommend this to fans of pure Black Metal in its most elitist and old-school form from which it should’ve never evolved.
