GWYDION – GWYDION ( Review by Varg The Mighty )

Today’s review is of Portuguese Folk Metal band Gwydion’s upcoming self-titled album, out next month.
This album offers vast experimentation, fully transcending the sub-genre into nearly each Metal genre, from Black to Death to Symphonic to Heavy… The result they have brought is this album, with some songs like “Hammer Of The Gods” or “The Chair Of The Sovereign” that are quite catchy, but other songs are quite forgettable and could be omitted or released as another album to reduce the excessive length of this release.
Thanks to a variety of instrumentation and influences combined with good vocals in numerous styles this album is notably diverse and quite appealing to a lot of different tastes, from purely folk like on songs like “A Roda” to other parts which may even be liked by people who don’t enjoy Folk Metal. This album is the product of a lot of veteran talent and creativity, but it isn’t entirely perfect either. My rating is of 8/10.
