NETHER – BETWEEN SHADES AND SHADOWS (Review by Varg The Mighty )

Today’s review is of Belgian Black Metal band Nether’s upcoming debut album, out later this month.
This album is a clear example of fast, merciless Black Metal which highly reminds of Enthroned or similarly aggressive bands. With some hints of other bands like Dark Funeral, this album may be slightly more mainstream than the average album, especially on the unnecessary Cradle Of Filth influences.
With dissonant tremolo picking and evil vocals, what differentiates this band from others is the outstandingly technical drumming, without which this album would be much more average. There are some interesting and dark songs in this full-length, of whom I’ll highlight “Mouths Sealed, Clenched Fists” and “So All Adore Me”. With the power displayed on these songs they are proving the potential of the band on future albums and to play this mayhem live, which will surely be worth seeing.
I recommend this album to fans of Black Metal and Black Death Metal.
