THANATOPSIS – INITIATION ( Review by Varg The Mighty )

Today’s review is of American Thrash Death Metal band Thanatopsis’ debut album.
With their recent reunion with a new drummer, the band have rescued songs from their demos from the 90s to give them a better quality, modernize them and have them accessible to more people.
It is very surprising how modern this album sounds, an amount that may even seem excessive, especially given the age of the songs. This is an interesting album that, despite being clearly American, it has a lot of qualities of French Thrash Death Metal, of bands like Agressor, Mercyless or Mortuary. Nonetheless, the vocals clearly make it more American, with similarities to the Bay Area scene. It definitely leans a lot more towards Thrash than Death Metal.
This album has good songs and is pretty decent, but it doesn’t really stand out and it may be considered a common album that any new band could make, with some lack of veteran expertise. Despite this, there are good songs, like “Consequence”.
I recommend this album to fans of Thrash Death Metal and American Thrash Metal. My rating is of 8/10.
