PASSENGERS IN PANIC – PASSENGERS IN PANIC ( Review by Varg The Mighty )

Today’s review is of Greek Progressive Folk Metal band Passengers In Panic’s debut self-titled album.
While perfectly being considered Progressive, it is pretty simplistic for the style, leaning also heavily towards Heavy Metal. Besides including unusual instruments for metal, it is also curious to hear some Greek folk, since it isn’t that common of a theme for Folk Metal bands.
Besides being clearly Folk, they sound sometimes like an odd mix of Cruachan with Plasmatics, something unexpected, sometimes a bit too strange but sometimes pretty good. Also, the band is pretty light and are far from the extremity added to folk by most bands, instead keeping more its romantic, traditional sound even with metal instruments (most notably in the Therion-like “Life At Its Best”). Thanks to a good vocal performance and an instrumentalism that doesn’t get too complicated, the band seem to have a unique sound that can be polished to produce even better songs. At the moment though, this is quite decent for a debut.
I recommend this album to fans of Folk Metal, Progressive Folk Metal and Heavy Metal. My rating is of 8,5/10.
