VÁTHOS – UNDERWATER ( Review BY Varg The Mighty )

Today’s review is of Romanian Post-Black Metal band Váthos’ debut album.

This album includes the typical mix of heavy and light music commonly displayed by bands of this style, and they sound mostly as Alcest’s strongest songs, although some tracks like “Ruins Of Corrosion” or “Corrupted Mind” tend somewhat more towards pure Black Metal despite clearly being Post-Black Metal.

This album also has some heavy influences from Atmospheric Black Metal which can be heard on almost every song. In my opinion, their lightest tracks have a much better constructed atmosphere (take for instance “Curse Of Apathy” or “Shape Of…”) and seem like a promising direction for the bands future, since they have a higher quality than the other songs. Also notably, the album has a poorer sound than most of the over-produced bands from this sub-genre, a detail that makes them slightly more unique and that surely adds more realism and depth to their songs.

I recommend this album to fans of Post-Black Metal and Atmospheric Black Metal. My rating is of 8,5/10.
