APHELION – I (Review by Varg The Mighty )

Today’s review is of American Black Metal band Aphelion’s debut EP.

With a recording quality that is just raw enough as to be fathomed and true at the same time, these 4 dark songs also have an eerie intro and outro consisting of malefic chants.

While the melodies use the usual dissonances, there are also some parts that are slightly slower, in that sweet spot where they are common Black Metal but not quite Black Doom where Hades Almighty and Inquisition may sometimes lower their tempos. Although this nice trait is apparent on the whole release, perhaps on “Cloak Of Dying Light” it can be appreciated better.

Also, the way the voice is recorded sounds pretty interesting within the typical boundaries within which they tread. Overall, the songs have some feeling that would make them seem like some obscure Scandinavian 90s demo that is usually hard to achieve. This EP is quite enjoyable if you love classic Black Metal.

I recommend this to fans of Black Metal, Black Death Metal and Black Doom Metal. My rating is of 9/10.
