Today’s review is of One Man American Black Metal band Serpent Ov Old’s latest album.
This album is composed with a lot of talent, especially in the guitars. Combining intense riffs in the style of Children Of Bodom or modern Kreator with really great solos almost to the level of Dragonforce or Steve Vai in some bits with the unique feeling of Melodic Black Metal bands like Naglfar. Also, the subtle implementation of synths gives a good background ambience to the music.
Combining really virtuous songs with more straightforward Black Metal bits, there seems to appear a unique atmosphere that is quite interesting. My highlights are the title track and “A Candle For Thee Accusers”, possibly the two most distinct extremes of the release.
I recommend this album to fans of Melodic Black Metal. My rating is of 8,5/10.
