SLOW GREEN THING – AMYGDALA ( Review by Varg The Mighty)

Today’s review is of German Stoner Metal band Slow Green Thing’s new album.

This release leads a frontal assault of mesmerising riffs on top of an enormous mountain of fuzz pretty similar to the one of Monolord. Every now and then though, the drowning noise of heaviness acquires a more atmospheric undertone that leads it astray from its Sludge side into melodies that remind of Grunge (especially towards the end of the album, as on the great “Love To My Enemy”), something quite similar to Rezn.

Besides the shifting atmosphere and the definitely catchy riffs that won’t let you do anything that doesn’t involve a really slow headbanging, the album also has some pretty hypnotising solos based on noise upon noise to create an even more stoner feeling, as on “Medusa’s Spell”. This is a really decent album that really brings the Doom to Stoner Metal.

I recommend this album to fans of Stoner Metal and Doom/Sludge Metal. My rating is of 9/10.
