DARK ARENA – WORLDS OF HORROR (Review by Varg The Mighty )

Today’s review is of American Progressive Thrash Metal band Dark Arena’s upcoming new album, out on August 27th.

Featuring the last recordings of late guitar virtuoso Paul Konjicija, this album recorded in 2018 will finally see the light this month. On this release the band has taken a more direct approach, with less keyboards and experimentation (though some riffs are still worthy of Voivod).

While the sound and especially the vocals are clearly US Metal, the songs usually get nearer to Progressive Power Metal than to Thrash, combining perhaps the technique of Labyrinth with the American style of Iced Earth. Despite that, there are still some pretty powerful bits in the likes of Technical Thrash Metal bands of the 90s. My personal highlights are “Dark Arena” and “Kill Procedure”.

I recommend this album to fans of Progressive Thrash Metal and Progressive Power Metal. My rating is of 8,5/10.
