GATE – NORD ( Review by Varg The Mighty)

Today’s review is of Norwegian Alternative Folk band Gate’s upcoming new album, out on December 3rd.

This album takes a wholly acoustic approach with a heartfelt and artistically free outcome. Perhaps the listener will quickly be reminded of Myrkur or Wardruna, though this release may be viewed as merrier at times, despite the general atmosphere of epic Nordic tradition is equally present.

Suspense is constantly woven and broken, some parts grow in intensity to culminating and almost tribal points while other passages take a lighter yet not less beautiful direction. Overall, the full-length is consistent and may be enjoyed by any fan of new approaches to Folk. My personal highlights are “Solfager Og Ormekongen” and “Hemnarsverdet”.

I recommend this album to fans of Nordic Folk. My rating is of 8,5/10.
