PARADISE IN FLAMES – ACT ONE ( Review by Varg The Mighty )

Today’s review is of Brazilian Symphonic Black Metal band Paradise In Flames’ new album.

This release delivers colossal orchestrations juxtaposed with ravenous riffs that deliver an evil aura, though at times it feels somewhat artificial. While the operatic vocals and talented synths create a good ambience, their combination with the rest of instruments sounds too much as Cradle Of Filth, and the Dani Filth-inspired vocal performance doesn’t quite aid, even though it doesn’t reach the same level of absurdity and is recorded more seriously, leaving some room for instrumentation too.

Although some parts seem like generic Symphonic Metal, there are some decent songs on the release that may appeal to fans of the grandiose, such as “Bringer Of Disease” or “Dancer Of The Mist”. Fans of exaggerated Black Metal as done in the 90s by more commercial bands may enjoy the album, but it is definitely not for fans of purer subgenres.

I recommend this album to fans of Symphonic Black Metal. My rating is of 7,5/10.
