Rascal Whack "Maliveni" LP Release (Heavy Rock)

Godsleep, Elephant Riders, Fuzzcrafter

Released June 24, 2021

Rascal Whack, is a five-member Heavy Rock band from Athens that was created in 2013. Their new album is called Maliveni and through it they redefine themselves and tell us a new story.

Maliveni was released on June 24th and includes 8 compositions. Although they remain faithful to the heavy rock genre that they serve & prefer, the grunge, stoner & heavy metal references are very intense in every song. That creates a very familiar and comfortable – almost old fashioned - atmosphere for the listener, however they carry a unique aesthetic and sensitivity.

The word Maliveni, means «cedar-forest» and is an area that literally exists in the suburbs of the city of Athens. The album describes the arrogant expansion of the city, its suffocating character and the effect that has on people, constantly asks for more and gives less and less. Maliveni is the antithesis of this chaos. The return to the roots, the aim to pay attention to our inner self as human beings, the need to live authentically, away from supposed patterns and idols.

This is Maliveni. The escape, the sacred place of redefining and distancing oneself from ignorance and deception.

Produced by Rascal Whack and Theodore Zefkilis, Mixed by Theodore Zefkilis, Mastered by Apostolos Siopis (Siopis Masters), Recorded at SCA studios, by Theodore Zefkilis. Music & compositions by Rascal Whack.
Rascal Whack are:
Spiros Ladas – lead guitar, Gregory Tourvas – rhythm guitar & vocals, Stathis Skaloumpakas – vocals, Chris Ladas – bass & Akis Delaportas – Drums.

You can stream Maliveni through Spotify. Physical copies are available through Bandcamp.

Aisles - Disobedience - (Hard Rock)

The Chilean rock band Aisles will unveil the song "Disobedience" on July 15th via Presagio Records. This is the second single off the group's new studio album, which will be released early 2022.

FFO: Yes, Rush, King Crimson.

“Disobedience” was influenced by the heaviness of Animals as Leaders and the rhythmic expressions of hip hop, but it also features elements of pop and the fusion style of Allan Holdsworth and Richard Spaven. "We have broken the scheme of our own music: this song is more direct, more powerful and more contagious," explains Germán Vergara, Aisles' guitarist. Drummer Felipe Candia adds: "this song is marked by a rebellious energy, with a hint of something that is coming, but with an uncertain ending."

Check it out now on Spotify!

The lyrics are inspired by disobedience as a positive act of seeking an identity: “obedience to yourself, or disobedience to others, is necessary for life. There is also a sense of overcoming guilt, restarting and forgiving yourself,” says the musician.

The track was recorded at Estudio del Sur, produced by Angelo Marini and Germán Vergara, mixed by Pepe Lastarria (Kuervos del Sur, Nunca Seremos Dichosos) and mastered by American engineer Randy Merrill (Muse, Paul McCartney, Beck, Liam Gallagher). “Disobedience” is the second single from the band's new studio album, after the release of “Fast”, which came out on June 4th.

The group, formed by Germán Vergara, Felipe Candia, Rodrigo Sepúlveda (guitar), Juan Pablo Gaete (keyboard), Israel Gil (vocalist) and Daniel Concha (bass), is currently finishing their fifth studio album, which will be out early 2022. For this new album, they have left behind the concept and sound of “Hawaii” (2016) to open up to a more direct and powerful sound influenced by bands like Porcupine Tree, Rush and Animals As Leaders. “We have done a very exhaustive job: we put pressure on ourselves to change our paradigm,” says Guevara.

Originally from Santiago de Chile and with four acclaimed studio albums, Aisles has become the most important South American progressive band in the last two decades. Their intricate melodies and sonic openness reflect their incomparable musical approach. The group has performed in North America, South America, Europe, and has played live in Chile, opening for iconic bands such as Marillion and Focus, and also at shows in various locations around the country.

In 2005 they released their debut album, entitled "The Yearning", which was released in Chile and the United States, has been recognized for its elegant and delicate melodic work, especially on epic songs such as "The Wharf that Holds His Vessel" and "Gray”. In 2009, their second album, "In Sudden Walks", inspired by classical theater and literature, was nominated for Best Foreign Album at the Prog Awards in Italy. The group also participated in the 11th version of the Progressif Crescendo Rock Festival. In France, their third work, “4:45 AM”, which investigated the loneliness of the human being, published in 2013, received rave reviews and was ranked among the best albums of that year in numerous publications specializing in progressive rock.

“Hawaii” (July 2016), a conceptual double album that narrates the life of humanity in space after the destruction of the Earth, was chosen among the best albums of the year by media such as Prog (England), NeoProg (France), Headbangers Latinos (Mexico), Aural Moon (USA) and Rockaxis (Chile). The success of the album allowed them to tour Europe, the United States, and Mexico.

In 2018, by way of closing the cycle of "Hawaii" they published the EP; "Live from Estudio del Sur", which was complemented by four videos recorded live, that can be found on YouTube. After the departure of their original vocalist, Sebastián Vergara, at the end of that year, Aisles presented in September 2020 their new singer, Israel Gil, with whom they restarted their artistic evolution by publishing “Smile of Tears”, a new version of the song from the album "In Sudden Walks". The band will release its fifth work during the second half of 2021.

Austrian Death/Thrash metal act CYROX have signed a licensing deal with Wormholedeath for the release of their album "Beyond Control". More info coming soon!

The music of Cyrox can roughly be described as a mixture between Death and Thrash Metal, whereby they try to fit into no genre specifically. The influences range from Rock to Black Metal.

We are very excited to become a part of the WormHoleDeath family. This marks the next big step for our band and we are ready to take it. With the worldwide release of our debut album „Beyond Control“ we are proud of the opportunity to take our music out there and show the metal fans our take on real Austrian Metal. We are looking forward to a long and great relationship.                                                           About "Beyond Control"

The album is about things you have to deal with in your personal life, wether its physical or psychological and you have no influence on it. For example the song “Frozen In Life” is written from the view of a man who is in a vegetative state and wants his life to be ended. The song “My Insanity” is about sleep paralysis. Gernot and Andreas came up with the concept and the lyrics after the songs were done instrumentally.

Biography

The band was founded under the name Black Void in February 2016 in Leoben, Austria, by drummer Markus Antoniol from St. Stefan ob Leoben and guitarist Gernot Weber from Eisenerz, who have been friends since early youth and played together in various bands.

We soon found our second guitarist Christian Gallmayer, who is a colleague of Markus. For about a month we were looking for a bass player, when Gernot heard about a guitarist named Andreas Fahrleitner who was doing a solo cover show in his home town of Radmer. Gernot watched some clips of his show and contacted him if he was interested in joining the band, which he did, so Gernot switched from guitar to bass.

The next problem, however, was that Andreas and Christian had to do their military service in the Austrian army for six months, so they didn't really have time to make music. So the band took a break until November 2016.

Finally, Manuel Kirchleitner from Trofaiach joined the band as a singer, who is also a colleague of Markus and Christian. We changed the name from Black Void to Cyrox and started jamming again and soon the first songs were born.

Our first gig was in December 2017 in Eisenerz, Austria. From that on we played live on a regular basis up till the first lockdown in Austria in March 2020.

In May 2020 Christian Gallmayer left the band, because of privat circumstances which didn’t allow him to put any more time in the band. He was replaced in June 2020 by Leo Buchegger.

In April 2021 Markus Antoniol had to leave the band, he was replaced in May 2021 by Andreas Tobias.
