TURBOCHARGED – ALPHA BEAST, OMEGA GOD (Review by Varg The Mighty)

Today’s review is of Swedish Death Metal band Turbocharged’s upcoming new album, out on October 14th.

This release offers a very powerful assault of Swedish Death Metal done the right way. It has the same sonority, straightforward approach and inherent darkness as the classics, and most songs in this full-length have some very well developed Dismember and Entombed (especially Entombed AD) influences.

It is also worth noting how there’s a Rock n’ Roll prevalence that brings to mind a distorted and down-tuned version of Motörhead. The release also has an ideal length for the genre, and there’s definitely no fillers here, only carnage. My personal highlights are “Piss Stigmata” and “Hunger Of The Wendigo”.

I recommend this album to fans of Swedish Death Metal and Death n’ Roll. My rating is of 9,5/10.

FOGOS – CORPSES AND ASHES (Review by Varg The Mighty )

Today’s review is of Catalan Black Metal band Fogos’ debut album.

This release offers an incredibly straightforward and aggressive kind of Black Metal that combines the clear elements of an average Spanish Black Metal act with a Dark Funeral-oriented approach that is most prevalent in the vocal performance.

This full-length is utterly relentless and offers no solace in intros, interludes or quieter parts, and while that may in some cases be enjoyable, in this album it feels like the main cause for a lack of dynamism that inevitably gives a monotonous feeling to many tracks. Nonetheless, towards the end the songs seem to acquire a slightly different aspect with some further depth and darkness while still sounding just as raw and just as old-school (with an extra emphasis in the early 2000s scene). My personal highlights are “Mortis” and “Nyx”.

I recommend this album to fans of Black Metal. My rating is of 8/10.

CAPTAIN BLACK BEARD – NEON SUNRISE (Review by Varg The Mighty )

Today’s review is of Swedish AOR band Captain Black Beard’s upcoming new album, out on October 7th.

This release offers a classic approach to the genre that truly captures the essence of classic AOR, while it also adds an element of freshness that makes it sound fresh and modern in conjunction with its old-school spirit. Perhaps a clear comparison would be with The Night Flight Orchestra, although this band also has its own distinct personality.

If you want something catchy, easy-going, smooth and partly nostalgic, check this solid full-length. My personal highlights are “Physical” and “State Of Denial”.

I recommend this album to fans of AOR and Hard Rock. My rating is of 8,5/10.
