OCEAN GATES set release date for BOOMLAND RECORDS debut, reveal first track

Today, Boomland Records announces October 5th as the international release date for Ocean Gates' striking debut album, Ocean Gates, on vinyl LP and digital formats.

Ocean Gates were formed in Ferrol (Galicia), the northwest corner of Spain, in March 2018. The real origin of the band goes back to December 2017 when Moya (drums) and Santi (bass), both now in Inerth, were touring with their former band Looking For An Answer and decided to push the idea of getting a rock band together with Nuria (formerly of Deadmask) on vocals. Soon, both Mito (Holywater/Window Pane) and Rubén (formerly of Ursus) joined on guitars, and the first rehearsals took place in March. The idea was to pay an honest homage to both classic and obscure bands from the '70s hard rock and psych/prog scene, mixing it with classic doom rock, heavy metal, and proto-punk influences.

And indeed, that is what one will find on Ocean Gates' remarkably accomplished self-titled debut - and yet so much more. There is a warmth and immediacy here, a poignant earnestness that's endearing and inviting, that transforms these eight tracks into more than just "rock songs." Call it mystique or mysticism or just good, old-fashioned charisma, but Ocean Gates as a unit effortlessly exude a cool that's inclusive and immersive. Much of that mass appeal is owed to Nuria's rock-goddess vocals, evincing the wisdom of aeons and the insurgency of youth in equal measure. Behind her, the band bump and grind, pound and plod, throwing a vast array of shapes and dynamics at the listener but always sounding like the same band. This relative diversity of craft hearkens back to older, simpler times, when albums were more like travelogues, experiences that have narrative flow, rather than a set of jingles to be consumed in bite-sized portions.

The band, inspired by both their esoteric landmarks and urban realities, transforms here those sensations and atmospheres into hard-rockin' yet nuanced songs that are simultaneously familiar and foreign. The bringer of storms, land of shipwrecks, smugglers, and old cults: the Atlantic Coast is indeed the perfect landscape for their music. The cracks in the wall of a dying industrial town... Hopeless jobs, abandoned homes, and shrinking population... Collective depression and illegal affairs...

In the meantime, hear the brand-new track "Royal Darkyard" HERE at Boomland Records' official YouTube channel. Cover artwork, courtesy of Alejandro Tedín at Heresie Design Studio, and tracklisting are as follows:

Atmospheric metal band Alase released a new single and music video!

Promo pic by Esa Pitkälä

Alase comes back with the new “Jäljet” single after the “Vastaus” album that was released last summer. The song shows many aspects of Alase, from airy atmospheres all the way to heavy hitting post-metal grooves. The band is heading towards more progressive expression and ”Jäljet” is the first sample of this. The song’s line-up is the same that Alase has for live shows, Markus Hirvonen on vocals and in the drums there is Markus Majaniemi who is the band’s newest member. When the band was originally formed they used to release digital singles only and now Alase returns to this way of working and releasing after the “Vastaus” album.

“Jäljet” is released with a music video made by Vesa Ranta's (ex-Sentenced, ex-The Man-Eating Tree) Kaira Films. The video has been shot in many locations of northern Finland, including Pudasjärvi and Kainuu. Video is very visual and it tells a story - there are even some science fiction elements aboard.

WATCH music video here: https://youtu.be/Z8mWMsmTyXk

Guitarist Janne Lunnas describes the song:
“Making of the song started already last summer and for a long time it was kept in the “drawer”, until in February we started jamming it together in our rehearsal room. In the past we used to write all of our songs from start to finish entirely remotely, and each musician did their contributions to the songs separately at their homes. Recording of the final version was still done that way though. “Jäljet” song is a good sample of more progressive and riff driven new Alase. I really enjoy playing the guitar with a heavy hand, but by no means do I want to remove the more beautiful and atmospheric sections or the ambient elements from our sound.”

Band is working on several new songs and there are plans for them to be released later this fall and hopefully Alase will be able to return to live stages soon as well.

Stockholm's Lik reveals details for new album, 'Misanthropic Breed'

Stockholm's Lik reveals details for new album, 'Misanthropic Breed'
Launches video for first single, "Decay"

Cover art by Mark Riddick

On September 25th, Stockholm's Lik will unleash their third full-length, Misanthropic Breed, via Metal Blade Records. For a preview of Misanthropic Breed, the video for the first single, "Decay" (directed by Mathias Blom), can be viewed at: metalblade.com/lik - where the record can also be pre-ordered in the following formats:

- 180g black vinyl (EU excl.)
- Opaque red vinyl (ltd. 400, EU excl.)

- White red splatter vinyl (ltd. 100, Kings Road excl.)
- Clear / red & white splatter vinyl (ltd. 200, EMP excl.)

Sweden has long been held in high regard as one of the hotbeds of global death metal. With Misanthropic Breed - produced, mixed and mastered by Lawrence Mackrory (Obey Mastering) - Lik only add fuel to this fire. "The title of the record is 'Misanthropic Breed', because it describes the world today and the generations that are emerging," states vocalist/guitarist Tomas Åkvik. "In a way, it's more applicable than ever with the quote 'It's every man for himself' being so suitable, and it's also a 'hidden' homage to both Dismember and Entombed."

Far darker in tone and with fewer jokes than included on their previous releases, when it came to lyrical subject matter, the band were influenced partially by movies and books, but most of their inspiration came from looking back at their own catalogue. "The songs are inspired by older Lik songs, and where we could take a new direction from that. Of course there are other bands that we love involved as well, but for example, 'Female Fatal to the Flesh' is an evolved take on 'The Deranged' from Carnage mixed with 'Skin Necrosis' from 'Mass Funeral Evocation' (2015) while 'The Weird' is an even more brutal 'Ghoul' from the same record. Then there's 'Corrosive Survival', which was inspired by the disaster of Chernobyl, and 'Morbid Fascination' is like a Metallica/Entombed/Dismember track which turned out really cool. I think the main inspiration is still drawn from old school death metal, which we think is how death metal should be played."

Misanthropic Breed track-listing
1. The Weird
2. Decay
3. Funeral Anthem
4. Corrosive Survival
5. Female Fatal to the Flesh

 Album Cover: Hélène Mailloux

The instrumental character of this project, made up of six distinct movements, is only shaken by rare vocal interventions supporting passages where the music becomes more intense. This real sound puzzle assembled by Daffodil reveals the darkness and modernity characteristic of his latest productions. His meticulous mixing work allows this 25-minute musical piece, thought of as a whole, to evolve in the sandstone of unexpected rhythmic and harmonic breaks during which the trumpet and electronic sounds incessantly revive the machine.

The 25-minute of sonic expedition appears in a single piece of music containing the following six movements:

1. Sans préavis
2. L’air d’un vaincu
3. Navire de sauvetage
4. Terrain vague
5. Le temps gagné
6. Cavale

ASTRIFEROUS stream ME SACO UN OJO debut mini-album at "Decibel" magazine's website

Today, uprising death metal cult Astriferous stream the entirety of their highly anticipated debut mini-album, The Lower Levels of Sentience, at Decibel magazine's website. Set for international release on August 7th via Me Saco Un Ojo Ojo Records on 12" vinyl format - Pulverised Records shall be handling the CD version, while Desert Wastelands Productions will handle the tape version - hear Astriferous' The Lower Levels of Sentience in its entirety exclusively HERE.

Hailing from Costa Rica, Astriferous formed in 2018 and quickly set to work on their first recording. With a couple members concurrently doing time in Bloodsoaked Necrovoid, it's no surprise that that first Astriferous' recording, Raise High the Scepter of Indulgence, was of such exemplary quality. Indeed, from the very beginning was the band's aesthetic firm and fully formed: utterly gutted, sepulchral Metal of Death betraying an undeniable supernatural aspect.

A live rehearsal followed earlier this year, but at last has Astriferous' most ominous strike arrived: the four-song/21-minute The Lower Levels of Sentience. From its title on down to its four component song titles - "Ghost Universe," "Exercises in Tantric Sorcery," "Myriad of Grotesquerie," and especially "Necrohallucination" - it's immediately apparent the Costa Rican quartet are drawing from a different pool of inspiration for their dread creations. Bleak and bottomless is that abyss, and Astriferous literally drown the listener in death metal molded from grotesque shapes, otherworldly pulses, and hideous energies. Their attack is squarely within pure 'n' proud DEATH METAL - churning, caustic, crushing - but sliced and sluiced are frayed threads of blackgrind and the bestial arts, altogether coalescing into a slipstream of sinister atmosphere and boundless morbidity.

Neither resolutely "old school" and far too unclean for the new school, Astriferous are searching for cosmic caverns all their own with The Lower Levels of Sentience.

Fully search for those cosmic caverns exclusively HERE, courtesy of Decibel, North America's only monthly metal magazine. Preorder info for the vinyl version can be found HERE at Me Saco Un Ojo Ojo's Bandcamp. Cover and tracklisting are as follows:

Tracklisting for Astriferous' The Lower Levels of Sentience

4. Necrohallucination [6:59]

TEMPLE NIGHTSIDE stream new IRON BONEHEAD album at GrizzlyButts.com

Today, Australian black/death cult Temple Nightside stream the entirety of their highly anticipated fourth album, Pillars of Damnation, at heavily trafficked web-portal GrizzlyButts.com. Set for international release on August 7th via Iron Bonehead Productions, heaTemple Nightside's Pillars of Damnation in its entirety exclusively HERE.

By now, Temple Nightside require little to no introduction. Begun in 2010 by mainman IV - whose experience in the fertile Australian black metal underground is vast in itself - to explore a more blackened version of ancient death metal, the band's initially self-described "Ritualistic Death Metal Necromancy" eventually morphed into more atmospheric and more deeply cavernous shapes, culminating in 2016's critically acclaimed The Hecatomb. But such acclaim matters not to Temple Nightside, and the now-quartet next explored their past with the foul 'n' fascinating Recondemnation in 2018, which was a reimagining of their 2013 Condemnation debut album.

Their vision still boundless (and boundlessly BLACK), Temple Nightside return with the all-new Pillars of Damnation. Not for nothing is it titled as such: dense foundations of eldritch dread are both built around the listener and crushed by their hulking onslaught of sepulchral decibels. It's immediately and irrevocably Temple Nightside in their purest, most punishing form - bestial pulses evaporating into a smokestack-sized fog of frightening, palpable evil - but here rendered in a dexterously taut manner, and one even deceptively "anthemic" if you will. For where so much nowadays "cavernous death metal" slathers on lazy glazes of half-formed riff masquerading as "atmosphere," this Oz cult instead write RIFFS and their intensity has subsequently sharpened to a stultifying degree, lending a certain clarity to that evil that's even more intimidating. We'd be loathe to qualify this attack on Pillars of Damnation as "tighter" lest one think of popcorn-triggered "death metal," but it does give pause for reflection on this subtle-yet-radical development. Which is to say nothing of the closing 10-minute monolith "Damnation," which will BURY you...

In short, Temple Nightside are death metal necromancy of the highest order, more so now than ever - and forever shall they reign. Behold their Pillars of Damnation and pay fealty before your inevitable burial.

Full burial preparations can be found exclusively HERE, courtesy of GrizzlyButts.com. Cover and tracklisting are as follows:

FEUERSCHWANZ - Releases Official Music Video For "Malleus Malficarum"

FEUERSCHWANZ - Releases Official Music Video
For "Malleus Maleficarum"

Watch the video HERE!
German medieval rock masters FEUERSCHWANZ have released the official music video for their song "Malleus Maleficarum". The song comes off their brand new album Das Elfte Gebot which was released on June 26 and landed at #3 on the official German album charts.

Commented the band: "The Witch Hammer (lat. Malleus Maleficarum) is a pamphlet to legitimize the witch hunt and was released by Dominican Heinrich Kramer in 1486. He tried to cement his misogyny religiously and called everyone opposed to the witch hunt heretics!

With heavy Black Sabbath- or Dio-esque riffs, medieval bagpipes and hurdy gurdies as well as monks' choirs in the vein of Ghost we show you a bleak world of medieval fake news! The high castle is set ablaze as our kitties won't be oppressed!"

Watch the video HERE!

Das Elfte Gebot also includes the bonus cover album Die Sieben Todsünden (except for the CD Jewel Case Version) containing seven cover versions of songs not only by internationally acclaimed artists like Seeed and Ed Sheeran but also Rammstein, Powerwolf and Sabaton.

To celebrate the release, the band had performed an exclusive online open air at Burg Abenberg the same day. The recording can be viewed here.
