Requiem For Oblivion - Hindsight 2020

Requiem For Oblivion is the brain child of Steve Jacobson (a veteran of the metal scenes in both Sacramento, CA and Erie, PA). Steve has assembled various musicians throughout the years to help him push his dream onward. The band has been considered 'hybrid' death metal because of all the various influences and manifestations of the music. Each song takes listeners down many roads and one could say there are songs within songs. Steve usually reaches for different themes lyrically, which are not typical of the genre.

Requiem For Oblivion has played a show hosted by Metal Sanaz and has shared the stage with national and regional acts such as Katatonia, Intronaut, Tesseract, Vital Remains, Cult Of Luna, Kataklysm, Fleshgod Apocalypse, Rose Funeral, Mushroomhead, Kriadiaz, Ventana, Here Lies Another, Demons Within, and Scarwork. RFO has played many festivals and numerous clubs around the tri-state area (PA, OH, NY) as well as their home base of Erie, PA over the last 9 years. With no concerts in the foreseeable future, the band currently consists of founder Steve and drummer Mike Scutella. Together they have solidified their tech-death, slam, atmospheric style and bring in a new era of songwriting consistency.

Together, during the pandemic, they have written 15 new songs, in addition to the 5 being released next month (Hindsight2020 due out January 2021).  In addition, the new full length is nearly completely written...(Amidst Chotic Earth, due out fall 2021). The complete discography includes a couple rare singles, demo in 2010 (not currently available), EP2011, EP2013, Dark Tales Of Forgotten Mindscapes in 2014, Burning Nation in 2017, Hindsight 2020 in Jan. and Amidst Chaotic Earth in 2021. Check out their Bandcamp, Reverbnation and YouTube pages for additional info/merch/music. Here is a teaser for that upcoming full-length album: https://youtu.be/6ePATK77_6Y

RONIN - Heavy Metal/USA

Tired of hearing, “Rock is dead bro”? Well, so are Ronin! These four guys from Long Island are eagerly anticipating the moment when they can shut those people up with the release of their 8-track debut album! Like so many others who pine for the sounds of bands like Metallica and Alice in Chains, Ronin crave the sensation and visceral experience that accompanies listening to just good old, hard-hitting, no-nonsense Rock and Roll! No need for pomp and circumstance! Throw out the smoke and mirrors! Ronin play what they want, how they want and without any unnecessary embellishment or apologies.

In the grand scheme of things, that has always been the mission of the New York foursome that makes up Ronin. Chris Feldmann (Rhythm Guitar and Vocals), Jack Mauro (Lead Guitar), Andrew Vitale (Bass Guitar), and Justin Maas (Drums) all grew up in the 90’s and early 2000’s, a time where Rock music was everywhere! They’ve grown tired of the soft and weak, pop-infused rock that floods the airwaves, veiling itself under the guise of rock music. Ronin have made it their life goal to rock it back to the days when the genre charged ahead of the crowd with full throttle adrenaline. So, enough moping around, yearning for “what was.” It’s time to get your asses in gear and focus on “what will be.” The Rock Revolution has begun, and Ronin are sounding the charge! Ronin are here to throw down, have a good time, and rock – don’t you fucking forget it!

EMBRACE OF THORNS reveal video from special live CD+DVD set being released tomorrow via SATURNAL

"And the third angel sounded, and there fell a great star from heaven, burning as it were a lamp, and it fell upon the third part of the rivers, and upon the fountains of waters; And the name of the star is called Wormwood: and the third part of the waters became wormwood; and many men died of the waters, because they were made bitter." (Rev. 8:10, 11).

Today, Greek black/death institution Embrace of Thorns reveal a live video for "Atonement Ritual." The track hails from the DVD portion of a special live album, Revelation of All Sins, now set for international release on February 19th via Saturnal Records on CD+DVD format. See & hear the brand-new live video of Embrace of Thorns' "Atonement Ritual" in its entirety HERE at the Metal Vault YouTube channel.

Emerging in the late ‘90s from western Athens as Requiem, only to be soon renamed to the more apt Embrace of Thorns, the Greek Temple of Black Death has been championing death for more than 20 years.

Having released five albums on labels such as Nuclear War Now! and Iron Bonehead plus an arsenal of demo tapes and split releases, Embrace of Thorns has been acknowledged as a force to be reckoned with. Their poison, a highly atmospheric and dense amalgam of death and black metal, has been gaining momentum since the release of their acclaimed sophomore album, Atonement Ritual, in 2009. Their third full-length, 2011’s Praying for Absolution, considered by many as their magnum opus, saw them fully embracing their potential and pontificating knowledge through strife. Their latest offering, 2018’s Scorn Aesthetics, was unanimously hailed and celebrated as arguably their ripest album, an idiosyncratic mix of somber, melodious, yet punishing Black Metal of Death that relies heavily on the organic mood of the performances and production.

On the live front, Embrace of Thorns has likewise been a force to be reckoned with since 2009, having performed at various festivals around Europe and the United States. On that live front, the dense, suffocating, and oppressive trappings of their sound seem more pronounced. With relentless drumming, crushingly heavy guitar tones, and abominable vocals, their material gets re-interpreted and is transformed to a vile celebration of all things morbid.

Revelation of All Sins combines audio and video performances from two professionally captured shows. The audio CD, titled The Fall of Athens, was recorded live in Athens at Kyttaro club in 2015, from Embrace of Thorns’ historical show with Dead Congregation and Nigredo, while the DVD was professionally recorded and filmed by Necrokatarsis, when the band visited Vilnius, Lithuania for Armageddon Descends festival.

Both shows were mixed and mastered by Herald of Demonic Pestilence, and while the performances are left untouched, the final product is the best representation one could have from the band as a live act. Embrace of Thorns modus operandi doesn't rely on gimmickry, but they fully embrace the spirit of old, when black metal was about embracing one’s own demons and spewing them forth, unharnessed and ferocious, while onstage.
