Today’s
review is of American Symphonic Death Metal band Xael’s new album.
This
album combines numerous influences to coat an aggressive Death Metal assault in
deep symphonic grandeur with progressive hints to finish adding some uniqueness
to it.
The
first thing that comes to mind is Nile (something obvious, considering that
this project is also fronted by Brad Parris), but Septic Flesh seems like a
more appropriate comparison, since the cinematic effect it transmits is similar.
Other less apparent influences may be Emperor (in the similar use of clear
vocals) and even Wardruna (considering the ominous Folk passages).
This
album may instantly become a highlight of 2021, thanks to the incredibly dark
and complex tracks it includes, such as “As Decreed - The Law of Vuul Athmar”
or “Dark World Mirrors”, although no song should be omitted when listening to
this instant Symphonic Death Metal classic, which may surely sound incredible
if performed with an orchestra.
I
recommend this album to fans of Symphonic Death Metal, Folk Metal and Symphonic
Metal. My rating is of 10/10.
