Malevolence - "Antithetical"

Malevolence
Antithetical

Firecum Records
13 September 2021 | LP

Portuguese extreme metal act Malevolence have announced the long-awaited vinyl release of their 2013 album "Antithetical", due out in September via Firecum Records.

Reflecting on the past eight years since Malevolence released "Antithetical", it's amazing just how much has happened in the metal scene and how music has evolved in what we can consider being a short amount of time. Back in 2013, some of us had the opportunity to witness first-hand the great technical and human undertaking accomplished by the Portugal heavyweights. As the years progressed, and as we get the chance to relive it after years of being continually consumed by large amounts of audio greatness, "Antithetical" still manages to sound ahead of its time, as the band focused on mining the depths of death, doom, black and progressive metal while sliding into groovier territories to put together a brilliant concept.

To this day, no other Portuguese band managed to show such a level of imagination or the capacity to marry ominous atmospheres and crushing melodies with metal in such elegant harmony as Malevolence did. Make no mistake, this is a bold and pounding sonic mass capable of destroying any world-class altar, opening its way for an explosive second coming to blossom into a key progressive metal act.

From the solemn keyboard textures of Paulo Pereira to the powerful wall of sound created by the Hell-tinged riffing of Carlos Cariano and Fred Noel, together with an intense rhythm section operated by none other than Dirk Verbeuren (Megadeth) and Moonspell's bassist Aires Pereira, and with the addition of the studio work from V. Santura (Triptykon, Obscura, Dark Fortress, Pestilence), "Antithetical" is a record to be worshipped!

KROSSFYRE stream long-awaited HELLS HEADBANGERS debut album at NoCleanSinging.com Recibidos

Today, lawless metal cult Krossfyre stream the entirety of their long-awaited debut album, Rites of Extermination, at heavily trafficked web-portal NoCleanSinging.com. Set for international release on July 23rd via Hells Headbangers on CD format (the vinyl LP version will follow later this year.), hear Krossfyre's Rites of Extermination in its entirety exclusively HERE.

It was but 2017 when a humble mini-album titled Burning Torches emerged from a then-unknown Krossfyre. A swift detonation of deadly decibels and surprise hit all around, Krossfyre's first recorded statement for Hells Headbangers proved absolutely addicting: berzerker intensity and timeless METAL songcraft colliding head-on for 20 utterly exciting 'n' electric minutes. Of course, perhaps this auspicious start wasn't all that surprising given that the Spaniards' ranks included members who do or have done time in such bands as Sheidim, Spain's Graveyard, Körgull the Exterminator, Insulters, Morbid Flesh, and Suspiral...

And while all's been quiet on the Krossfyre front since then, at long last do they release their first full-length: Rites of Extermination. Thankfully, no great changes have been made to their iron-fisted attack; passion and poison have been mixed into their cauldron again for a longer 'n' stronger result. In a taut 'n' tight 38 minutes, Rites of Extermination whips forth a fury that's strangely familiar yet simultaneously refreshing - just like Burning Torches in that regard, but both more unhinged and finessed here. Call it black metal, death metal, thrash, or just HEAVY METAL, the album spills forth a go-for-the-throat hellishness that's timeless to the very end: infectious songwriting is the order of the day here, just as it was way back in the day. And while references to classic Nifelheim and Vomitor can still be made, Krossfyre can now handily count themselves among those hallowed ranks, so devout is their devotion to the original EVIL essence of metal itself, genre delineations and divisions be damned.

Wrapped in clearer and more cutting production that somehow manages to be even more devastating than their nuclear-assaulting debut EP, Rites of Extermination is everything - and more, MUCH MORE - a first Krossfyre album should be. Hear the roar of war and feel the Devil's force, fiercer and fresher than ever!

In the leadup to its long-awaited release this Friday, hear Rites of Extermination in its entirety exclusively HERE, courtesy of NoCleanSinging.com. Preorder info can be found HERE. Cover and tracklisting are as follows:

Ukraine based Death Doom Metallers Mental Torment are preparing the release their new album EGO:GENESIS on 29 September. Today, they reveal artwork, tracklist and teaser for EGO:GENESIS.

The album EGO:GENESIS includes 7 tracks about the catharsis that is a person goes through in a moment of despair and hopelessness, searching for answers to eternal questions, resisting the inevitable and final acceptance of their fate. The album will bring a fresh view on the traditional Doom Metal genre - from acoustic ballads and funeral vibes to sludgy and modern progressive music.

The band explains the artwork of EGO:GENESIS: "The cover is an image of the end of a person's journey. This is a metaphorical scene of transition to another stage of being. The cover shows a man wrapped in the waves of a river that will take him to another world through a shining passage. And the girl is like a goddess of fate, ready at any moment to cut the thread of life that has appeared before her."

Line-up:
Anatolii Doroshenko - Guitars
Andrii Avramets - Bass
Artur Myrvoda - Drums
Mykhailo Chuha - Guitars
Roman Sagajdachnyj - Vocals
Yaroslav Mosiievsky - Keyboards

Bio:
1. 2009, Mental Torment played their first gig in Kyiv music club Prime.
Also, the band took part in Doom Over Kyiv 4 festival in 2011 with such giants as Saturnus and Autumnia. During that era, Mental Torment was a mostly funeral-oriented band.

 2. After the recording was ended, Mental Torment was signed with Solitude Prod label and the debut album was released on 21/01/2013.

3. In March 2013, with the support Metallurg Music, the band touring to support the album release through Ukraine, Belarus, and Russian cities along with Letargia band.

4. Unfortunately, due to internal disagreement, Mental Torment took a small pause after that. 2015 saw one last show with On The Verge members as part of a charity gig organized by Mykhailo to support military medics. And then Mental Torment went to the bottom till 2020…

5. April 2021, within one month all lyrics were written for each song, along with whole album art. At the beginning of 2021, Mykhailo was endorsed by Avaks Custom Guitars (Ukrainian hi-end guitars company) and did whole guitar tracking using his Avaks SE7EN custom guitar. Later in May 2021, the new album was recording as a whole. Mykhailo did most of the recording and mixing in his home studio. During the recording session, Andrii visited Ukraine and tracked whole bass parts just in a couple of days.

6. In June of 2021 Mental Torment announced via Metallurg Music the 2nd Album "ego:genesis" which will be released on 29.09.2021 on all digital platforms.

M.ILL.ION - Back On Track

After a very inspirational trip to London/England in1988 a young B.J Laneby went back to Sweden with new perspectives & horizons: He had met Lemmy and had a looong friendly conversation over a bottle of J.D at the St Moritz Club, he had seen KISS at the re-opening of the classic Marquee-club in front of just a few hundred, he had watched Iron Maiden playing a secret gig at their old school and he attended the huge Monsters of Rock Festival at Donington Park in front of an 100.000 + audience. Guns´n Roses were early on the bill that day, David Lee Roth with his magic band of Steve Vai, Billy Sheehan etc was followed by KISS & Maiden. A shitty place to be for a young rocker...

Said and done. B.J went home and reformed the local band he was in a the time.
Approach: ”Let´s do this! Not locally, not regional, not just Sweden! Let´s fuckin´ do this!”

In came guitarist CT Rohdell, vocalist Hans Dalzon followed and then the whole band moved their location to the city of Gothenburg, where the keyboard player Marcus Berglund joined in. The guys set up three goals: 1.Rehearse like hell 2. Play as many gigs as possible 3.A record deal within a year. Determination, brotherhood, hard work!
Well...It worked...

After being invited to do a major Swedish TV-show in the autumn of 1990, still a demo-band, the band was offered several deals. In 1991 the band went over to Denmark to record their debut album, later to be called ”No.1”. The world famous PUK-studio (Elton John, Gary Moore, Judas Priest, Depeche Mode) was booked for the mixing.
When the album came out it made critics go wild and it hit the charts in Japan among other places. No.1 really became a door opener for things to come. Their debut is considered a cult classic among melodic rock fans all around the world. When the follow up ”We, Ourselves & Us” was to be recorded the band was independent and could choose studios and who to work with.  The Third album was called Electric. The first three albums included more or less the original line up.

1999 - 2014 B.J continued driving the M.ILL.ION brand with other musicians, including singer Ulrich Carlsson & drummer Per Westergren. Four more M.ILL.ION albums followed and together with the first three albums the alltogether result was: Fantastic reviews, international tours and fans worldwide, big festivals, sharing stages with many of the band´s childhood heroes and six figure sales.

Towards the end of the UK tour of 2014, B.J was hit by a terminal bacteria and almost died. After several months at hospital, he decided to put M.ILL.ION to rest, down size and concentrate on other things in life, but also a new music project, Major Instinct.

However: Now in 2021, it's time, not just to celebrate the 30:th anniversary of the first M.ILL.ION album, but also to get back to that pure feeling of joy of the early days! Take note, people: This is not a reunion of tired middle aged men for nostalgic reasons. This is for real and a serious attempt at creating great new rock music, to kick some classic ass on stage again and to have lots of fun doing it all!

Four original M.ILL.ION members reunited in the autumn of 2020: Hans Dalzon (Lead Vocals), CT Rohdell (Guitar) Marcus Berglund (Keyboards) and B.J Laneby (Bass Guitar). New, and very talented recruits Henrik Andersson (Lead Guitar) and Magnus Rohdell (Drums) complets this powerful six piece.

Founder & bassist B.J Laneby comments: ”It's so much fun, creativity & energy again!
It's really like the title track says: ” BACK ON TRACK – Time to make boys out of men!”

The band has spent the spring of 2021 working on the reunion album BACK ON TRACK.
This 15 track production includes three brand new songs and two re-recordings/re-arrangements of tracks from the No.1 album. Adding to this: Rare recordings have been found, remixes have been done + remasterings of songs from the first three albums; ”No.1”, ”We, Ourselves & Us” and ”Electric” as well. All very highly praised albums, all getting updated sounds.

Indeed, quite a cool package of classic melodic hard rock!

The new recordings on the Back on Track album were mixed by the world famous British producer Simon Hanhart (David Bowie, Bryan Adams, Saxon, Marillion, Asia, Yngwie Malmsteen, Waysted. a.o). Mastering was handled by another world class guy: Tim Debney of Fluid Mastering, UK. (Deep, Purple, Rod Stewart, Judas Priest…)

M.ILL.ION recently signed a deal with the well known German label AOR Heaven for the European release.
The album will be out in Europe on September 10th, 2021, preceded by the single & video of the title track “Back on Track” in late July

So, ladies & gentlemen, rockers & rollers: Get Ready! M.ILL.ION is BACK ON TRACK!

Peter H. Nilsson - Sign Of Myself

After the successful debut ”Little American Dream” in 2018-2019, Peter H. Nilsson once again teamed up with singer Chris Biano from Nashville, Tennessee and bass player Patrik Adiels from Gothenburg to record the new album ”Sign of Myself” on which the 1980’s once again meet with the 2020’s.  Even though Nilsson’s main instrument is the guitar, the songs are more important than single and dominant instruments. Just like the previous album, “Sign Of Myself” is a collaboration with musicians from Europe and The United States, with Nilsson as the musical composer and leader.

The new drummer Darrell Nutt from Southwest Florida has been a session drummer, producer and mixing engineer for over 25 years and recorded or performed with members of Steely Dan, AC/DC, Goo Goo Dolls, YES, The Moody Blues, Bad Company, John Waite and Parliament Funkadelic. In the 1990s, Nutt has toured internationally with country music artists and appeared on National TV shows. Nilsson also got in touch with the horn session group Blåsemafian ( i.e. Mafia Horns) from Oslo, Norway. Blåsemafian was formed in 2016. Since then, the group has worked as support musicians in several TV productions, and they have collaborated with artists such as Marcus & Martinus, Madcon, Cezinando and Angelina Jordan. During the late 2010s, the trio began working to establish themselves as independent artists. And were one of the finalists in the 2021 Norwegian Eurovision Song Contest.  Nilsson and Blåsemafian exchanged ideas and arrangements for the title song “Sign Of Myself”. In early March 2021 the whole horn section was tracked in Oslo.

Nilsson also invited his long-time friend Antonio Moralesto join him on keyboards on some of the songs. He was the keyboard player for the Spanish group Los Brisk in the 60s and 70s. Nilsson and Morales also wrote the instrumental Higher Ground together at Nilsson’s studio.

All songs are written by Peter H Nilsson and Chris Biano except Higher Ground written by Peter H Nilsson and Antonio Morales.

Newman - Into The Monsters' Playground

In 1997 Singer, songwriter Steve Newman formed the band Newman and since
1998 have been producing consistently 13 high quality albums filled with hook laden songs and thought provoking lyrics.

After the release of the album "Ignition" in March 2020, the band also announced they would be playing the HEAT festival in Germany at the end of 2020, and also a view to playing shows in both the UK and Europe, it was to be a busy year. Unfortunately at that time, a little known virus from China had other ideas, and the rest, and indeed, up to the present, as they say, is now history. As things progressed during April and May it became clear (or rather not so clear) that with this constantly changing situation it was impossible to try and schedule any live shows. The decision was taken in July to start work on a new studio album.

Recording and mixing was completed in April of 2021 on the 13th Newman studio release. Entitled "Into The Monsters' Playground" the new album boasts a more "in your face" sound from the opener "Start This Fire" through the anthemic choruses of "Hurricane Sky" and "Icon". Slowing in pace for the heartfelt "Lightning Tree" subsequently exploding back into rock territory with "Give Me Tonight" and the title track "The Monsters' Playground". The unmistakable Newman sound is here in abundance, the fine balance between the hard hitting guitars and the lush keyboards backed by a powerful backbeat. As the cover art suggests there is definitely a storm coming.

Produced By Steve Newman; Recorded At Chrome Dome Studios, London, England between August 2020 and April 2021 All songs written and arranged by Steve Newman

On this album: Steve Newman : Vocals, Guitar, Keyboards Rob McEwen : Drums & Percussion

Live band: Steve Newman : Vocals, Guitar; Shaun Bessant : Guitar, Vocals; Paul Boyle : Keyboards, Vocals; Dave Bartlett : Bass, Vocals; Harry Younger : Drums
