SAMAEL – PASSAGE ( Review by Varg The Mighty )
Today’s review is of Swiss Black Metal band Samael’s album “Passage”, celebrating its recent rerelease.
Together with “Eternal”, this album marks the transitional period between their particular type of Black Metal and their Electronic music progression. These two albums are pretty hard to describe, since they still have the mystic and grandiose aura of their initial releases while straying notably from Extreme Metal (though still not from Metal in general).
Perhaps best described as Industrial Black Metal with Gothic Metal influences, the full-length may also be considered to be pretty Avant-Garde. Though many fans of their early material dislike it, it has a really singular ambience that may remind of Rammstein mixed with Tiamat and their own style, and while it truly has little to do with the first 3 albums, it may also be easily enjoyed by metal fans with an open mind. Relying highly on synth and piano to create a slightly more upbeat ambience with hard hitting guitars and bass melodies that bring Gothic Rock to mind, the full-length is also dark, though it perhaps strives more towards a kind of epic that may only be produced by Samael themselves. There surely haven’t been any other albums similar to this one or its continuation. My personal highlights are “Rain”, “Shining Kingdom” and “Born Under Saturn”.
I recommend this album to fans of Symphonic Metal, Gothic Metal, Industrial Meta, Industrial Black Metal and Avant-Garde Metal. My rating is of 10/10.

ORDINUL NEGRU set to release new EP
A teaser for the upcoming EP: https://youtu.be/sidRYqO3eLQ
Here’s what the band had to say about it:
“A Sojourner Wandering Through the Barren Openness represents the other side of the coin of our experimentation after we released the Nebuisa EP last year.
We crafted this time an ambitious project of one song over 23 minutes, in which we have encapsulated all our knowledge and desire of an avantgarde and forward thinking approach, in relation to our musical journey in the black cult. We are not afraid to push genre’s limits, to incorporate old raw trv spirit and new orchestral elements together, to find that alchemic potion of catharsis.
Conceptually we developed a moment in time when a chosen eremite sees it all…the birth of the Earth and the ancestral truths, the crucifixion of the Nazarene and when the sky turned black and cleared the civilization in a majestic canvas, an epic poem inspired by old chronicles and forgotten dusted parchments.”
The entire package comes in an elegant digipack CD offered in collaboration with Loud Rage Music featuring beautiful imaginary made by Alexandru Das. The production (recording, mixing and master) was executed in Consonance studios by the band’s drummer Putrid, in a perfect symbiosis to keep every aspect familiar and comfortable for the band.
Line-up:
Fulmineos – guitars, vocals
Urmuz – guitars, vocals
Putrid – drums, bass
Guests:
Anca Otescu – vocals (FusionCore)
Irinel “Cosax” Cîrlan – vocals
Sol Faur – mandoline (DorDeDuh)

SAMAEL – CEREMONY OF OPPOSITES ( Review by Varg The Mighty)
Today’s review is of Swiss Black Metal pioneers Samael’ classic “Ceremony Of Opposites”, celebrating its recent rerelease.
Thanks to this year’s reissue, new legions of fans will be able to purchase the masters’ third album. Continuing with their indisputably unique brand of Black Metal as seen on “Worship Him” or “Blood Ritual”, new anthems were developed on this release.
Their trademark slow and obscure riffs are still present here, creating the blackest of atmospheres under that easily recognizable vocal performance. While the synths are slightly more present, this is still pure Black Metal, easy to be considered their last album of the first era. While the debut is arguably their best opus, these songs seem like a more mature version of the same, with no big qualitative difference. Filled with dark anthems such as “Celebration Of The Fourth”, “Till We Meet Again” or the dazzling closer title track, the full-length may justly be considered another masterpiece by one of the original and most singular Black Metal bands.
I recommend this album to any fan of Black Metal who somehow hasn’t checked it out. This release is a must for any Extreme Metal fans. My rating is of 10/10.
