Xhamain - "Na Alma" (Suspiria Records 2021)

Na Alma is the first part of a trilogy called No Ser. This is an ambitious and extensive work already written in its entirety, which is an excellent introduction of Xhamain.
The style of the Galician sextet combines elements of traditional Celtic music, such as bagpipes and flutes, with the strength and energy of metal with gothic and symphonic hints. The male/female vocal duality adds a great variety of melodic nuances to the final result.
Regarding the visual design, the band has hired the services of the Bulgarian artist Georgi Georgiev from Moon Ring Design, who has magnificently expressed the sound of the album with evocative dreamlike images.
Recorded and mixed by Ruben Alonso at Kastell von Pahlomen Studios and mastered by Tony Lindgren (Dimmu Borgir, Opeth, Blind Guardian, Eluveitie...) at Fascination Street Studios (Arch Enemy, Amon Amarth, Sepultura, Moonspell...), Na Alma will be played live on tour throughout 2022.

Changes with every step...

The Finns of Sentenced are a band that presented themselves in a new stylistic guise with almost every release in the first years of their existence. From the extreme Finnish Ur-Death-Metal formation of the early days to the end of their career, the band's path was quite changeable.
Especially on the album "Amok" presented here, the band once again reinvented themselves and created a long player that was groundbreaking for their further development.

With "Nespenthe", for which an elaborate video clip was also shot, the band created their first big hit, which was also noticed outside the then manageable metal cosmos through airplay and thus paved a new path for the band.

BYE BYE TSUNAMI: Copenhagen-Based Experimental Trio To Release Eponymous Debut EP Via Nefarious Industries In January; “Pornceptual” Video/Single And Preorders Posted

Nefarious Industries introduces trio BYE BYE TSUNAMI, and their experi-metal/post-mental sounds from planet , by way of Denmark. Announcing their eponymous debut EP for January release, the label today issued the cover art, track listing, preorders, and lead single, “Pornceptual.”

BYE BYE TSUNAMI is a group of sick individuals who thrive in uncertainty and find delight in the entropy of noise. The Copenhagen-based trio employs disrupted rhythms, unique/self-built futuristic wind instruments, and heartbreaking cyborg screams to expand the musical language beyond its wildest horizons. Scavenging the distressing remnants of a future no one wished for, the band is redefining the new era of post-real. The members first met in pre-pandemic era Copenhagen after being respectively active in the noise/experimental/jazz/metal scenes of Berlin, Copenhagen, and Amsterdam. Willing to realize their life dream of forming a dysfunctional boy band, in 2020 they finally give birth to BYE BYE TSUNAMI: monsters giving birth to other monsters.

BYE BYE TSUNAMI immediately captured the attention of the public with its unique sound imprint—the compositions are based on the Flaubosax, a unique self-built futuristic wind instrument conceived by Lorenzo’s twisted mind. Generating new soundscapes with the use of a personal asymmetrical tonal system and interacting with complex powerful drum rhythms, they lead the music through disrupted absurd forms and post-industrial spiritual textures. The aesthetic and video works, curated by fictional audiovisual artist Nathan L., merge meticulously in a truly visionary dystopian universe, which, despite its frenetic nature, possesses a paradoxical sense of poetic and emotional sensibility, raising highly relevant questions about the role of social media, advertisement, and gender in contemporary society.

Recorded in Copenhagen in September 2020, the debut EP Bye Bye Tsunami sees the core trio – Lorenzo Colocci (flute, flaubosax, electronic), Soren Hoy (drums), and Uldis Vitols (bass) – joined by guest vocalist Praytell, the record mixed by Marco Colocci and completed with art by Nathan L.

BYE BYE TSUNAMI’s “Pornceptual” – including an extremely NSFW video for the track – can now be streamed at THIS LOCATION.

Bye Bye Tsunami will see release across all digital platforms and in a limited run of cassettes via Nefarious Industries on January 28th. Find preorders including merch now at the label webshop HERE.

URBAN PRIMATE – DESOLATE (Review bY Varg The Mighty )

Today’s review is of Danish Modern Metal band Urban Primate’s new album.

This band creates here a soothing aura of Americanised metal that brings to mind acts such as Avenged Sevenfold or Five Finger Death Punch, but they also imbue their compositions with some extra heaviness that is later compensated with Grunge inspired bits (something that reminds of certain Stoner Metal bands, though besides this detail no further comparison with the genre may be found). As a result, the album is easy to listen to, but it also has some harshness that may aid newcomers in their pursuit for heavier music while striving in their quest for freshness.

As so, the full-length may be somewhat commercially friendly, and although its straightforwardness, atmospheric essence and display of emotion with some melodramatic excessiveness may scare off the strictest purists, fans of classic metal may not be too fond of the release but may not find it too unappealing either. My personal highlights are “Won’t Follow” and “Walk Away”.

I recommend this album to fans of Modern Metal. My rating is of 8/10.
