AZAAB – SUMMONING THE CATACLYSM ( Review By Varg The Mighty )

Today’s review is of Pakistani Progressive Death Metal band Azaab’s debut album.

This release is a brutal offering of complex Death Metal steered in a direction that allows it to become really aggressive, partly epic and enjoyable by fans of Progressive Death Metal and of regular Death Metal alike.

While the talent employed in the composition is undeniable, it doesn’t become as annoying as other bands of the same genre. The use of fast melodies and virtuous solos here is only implemented when sort of necessary, with simpler riffs also complementing the songs to deliver a whole picture which appeals to fans of Extreme Metal. While there’s no great innovation, it follows pretty well the path of other acts. My personal highlights are “Carbon Plague” and “When Worlds Collide”.

I recommend this album to fans of Progressive Death Metal. My rating is of 8,5/10.

DISHARMONY – GODS MADE OF FLESH ( Review by Varg The Mighty )

Today’s review is of Greek Heavy Doom Metal band Disharmony’s new album.

This release spans through many genres with Heavy Metal always serving as the point of reference. Some songs follow a Thrash direction, other a Doom one and some even have some slight Gothic undertones, all tied together in a Progressive touch. Overall, it tends towards a heavier sound that sometimes even reminds of Judas Priest’s “Painkiller”, although it usually follows a more modern direction that allows for epic auras to flourish, similar to Demons & Wizards’ last album.

Perhaps the main issue with this release is its length, since it may seem excessive to many listeners even if no song is really much of a filler. While it has some interesting parts and powerful tracks, the whole may be a bit too dense. Nonetheless, their genre-flexibility allows them to firmly display their personality in a way that offers a decent result. My personal highlights are “Nogard” and “Of Flesh”.

I recommend this album to fans of Thrash Metal, Heavy Metal, Heavy Doom Metal and Progressive Metal. My rating is of 8/10.

EPIDEMIK – EPIDEMIK (Review by Varg The Mighty )

Today’s review is of Costa Rican Thrash Metal band Epidemik’s new self-titled album.

This release offers some old-school, fast and violent Thrash that will please all fans of the classic approach and the genre’s golden years. Their direction may be compared perhaps most accurately to the one of early Thrash Death Metal bands, especially in the American scene.

Surprisingly, there’s a lot of instrumental bits when considering the genre, but these are as enjoyable as the sung ones. If you feel like banging your head to a powerful dose of manic riffs, check this full-length out; but be forewarned, it may induce chronic moshing. My personal highlights are “Global Mass” and “Rotten n Dead”.

I recommend this album to fans of classic Thrash Metal and Thrash Death Metal. My rating is of 8,5/10.
