I'LL BE DAMNED Culture (album) Mighty Music 25 November 2022

For fans of Clutch, Down, Rage Against The Machine.

In 2022 I’LL BE DAMNED is at it again. Armed with a constant flow of inspiration from a world gone mad, the Danish band is pissed off about politics, religion, the media and society in general. The new album, “Culture”, is more well-structured than the prior albums regarding both riffing and overall songwriting. And, with brilliant production value - courtesy of the producer Tue Madsen and his Antfarm Studios - the Nordic five-piece has finally reached the potential they promised in their previous two albums and explosive live appearances.

With the addition of two new members, Anders Gyldenøhr (ex-Grope, ex-Hatesphere) on drums and Mark Damgaard on vocals, I’ll Be Damned has matured in a musical way that has led to a more serious approach to the writing process. This is showcased with an album - coming after “Road To Disorder” (2018) and “I’ll Be Damned” (2017) - containing less humour, darker and more aggressive riffs followed up by explosive vocals and lyrics that include themes such as anger, desperation and hopelessness rather than sarcasm and irony. However, the thematics of “Culture” still revolve around hatred towards religion and politics, but also newer forms of extreme cultural diversities.

Backed with influences such as Clutch, Down and Rage Against The Machine, I’ll Be Damned fuses a potent yet melodic and groovy punch in your face with lyrical sharpness and unifying paroles – with an attitude.

“Culture” is out today on digital, CD and LP (transparent orange vinyl, limited to 300 units) via Mighty Music.

Lineup:
Mark Damgaard - vocals
Boris Tandrup - guitars
Kristian Sloth - lead guitars
Jens Lunde - bass

November 2022 Mighty Music

Back in 2016 vocalist Liv Jagrell, known worldwide as the frontwoman for Sister Sin, let the music world know that she had formed a new band. LIV SIN, driven by massive guitar riffs and a heavy modern metal sound released their debut album “Follow Me” in 2017. Their second album, “Burning Sermons” was released in 2019. Both albums spawned multiple popular singles such as "Let me Out" and "Blood Moon Fever".

Fast forward to 2023, after a two-year down period and revamped line-up, LiV SiN is now completely recharged and ready to hit the stages again. Not forgetting the record shops’ racks, with their new album, “KaliYuga”. “KaliYuga” referring to the fourth of the four “Yugas” in Hinduism, the era precisely dedicated to the present age, full of conflict and... sin. The theme of Kali Yuga was also reflected in the album’s writing process.

Since we produced this album ourselves, we definitely tried out a lot of new things, and I confess, I went a bit crazy with the vocals in certain parts”, Liv declares.

Musically, “KaliYuga” is LiV SiN, on steroids! Jagrell explains how the creative process developed into an energetic and varied set of songs: “We took influences from everywhere, from newer metal acts such as Architects, Parkway Drive to vocal inspiration from King Diamond. I am ecstatic with the outcome”.

With such an album in hands, LiV SiN could only pick a production team that would do justice to the songs. Simon Johansson (from Wolf and Memory Garden fame) and Mike Wead (King Diamond and Mercyful Fate axeman) were summoned to record the album, while the mix and mastering duties were delivered to console-wizard Tue Madsen (Witchery, The Haunted, At The Gates, etc). A winning team for a strong and cohesive album that will for sure kick off 2023 in a true heavy way.

“KaliYuga” will be released on digital, digipack CD and LP (black vinyl, limited to 500 units) via Mighty Music on January 27th, 2023. Pre-orders are available here and here.

Stargazer: new single out now; album in 2023

After “Live My Dream”, Norwegian heavy rockers STARGAZER return with the second digital single from their upcoming album. “Live Today” is a heartfelt ballad where Tore André Helgemo shows all his vocal range and potential until the amazing guitar solo takes over. On their take on classic hard rock and heavy metal crossover, the Norwegians also confirm that the heavy bands surely know how to make the best ballads.

The music takes you near to the family values, not just because it's a ballad. But they do it with pictures from real life. As a viewer, the video takes you into the private life of the Stargazer family. The band comments: "It's all about taking the moment, love it and make the best of it with the people you love, as far as you can: Live today! Love what you do, and do it the best you can".

“Live Today” is out now as a digital single and official video. A new Stargazer album is expected to be released in 2023.

No Return "Requiem"

A quick search online about the word “age” will show you a variety of expressions commonly used. The first and probably the most used one is “coming of age”, which refers to reaching adulthood or a certain level of maturity. On their 33rd year of career, French death/thrash metal veterans NO RETURN have already passed the “coming of age” phase. But that doesn’t mean they have stagnate, settle down or rest on their laurels. In fact, quite the contrary.

Welcome to the new chapter of No Return, one of the most well-known and oldest metal bands in France. The death/thrash machine is back with “Requiem”, their eleventh studio album and, very likely, their heavier and most savage work to this date. In fact, the Parisian five-piece presents itself with a renewed sound, sporting a new level of intensity, melody and heaviness. In a nutshell, it’s No Return on steroids.

“Requiem” is out now on digital, CD, and LP (red/black vinyl, limited to 300 units) via Mighty Music. Orders available here.

We are Big Sun. We only serve ourselves, our order, and the big sun.

The origin of BIG SUN goes back to the beginning of the 19th century and refers to a secret lodge founded by Jean-Baptiste Jules Bernadotte, also known as Karl Johan the 14th of Sweden, who before he ascended the throne of Sweden, was field marshal under Napoleon. After much internal strife, Jean Baptiste and Napoleon were reconciled in 1804, and he swore allegiance to Napoleon's famous quote: "If I had to choose a religion, the sun as the universal giver of life would be my god".

After the Swedish coronation, Karl Johan created a secret lodge for Scandinavian and North German nobles, powerful lords, and future industrial magnates - Loge du Grand Soleil, which over a number of years held secret meetings in castles and manors throughout Scandinavia. The Lodge sought to be a kind of shadow cabinet and exercise their power on a political, cultural, and artistic level. The lodge was ruled with a heavy hand by a Grand Master who was the guardian of the lodge's secrets and who was given "carte blanche" to protect and spread the message of The Big Sun to the chosen ones.

Big Sun's members are all direct descendants of the absolute pinnacle of the Loge du Grand Soleil's heyday and are now ready to lift the lodge's vision of a return of the big truth and true art - borne forth in the essence of music - under the new lodge name Big Sun.

"In the beyond, when the sun goes out - music,  the invisible thread of the universe,  continues in eternity"
Big Sun is a heavy rock force of nature driven by the vision of a tribute to creation. Knife-sharp precision and heaviness make up the big sun's enormous musical powerhouse. The musical lodge creates a melodic expression with sky-high ambitions, while staring into the abyss and the animal impulses are given free rein. Big riffs, melodic choruses, and virtuosic instrumental passages consistently seek to complement the vocals and the songs’ messages.

Big Sun's debut single "Lovers Die At Midnight" is out now.

New single

Trold "Jul i Skoven"

Danish forest gang  TROLD celebrates X-mas in their own, mischievous way. “Jul I Skoven” tells a charming tale about the Christmas of the trolls and their favourite Christmas dinner: the elves. Lots of humour, sleigh bells, church bells, and a festive atmosphere.

Trold plays folk metal with a mischievous smile, which is guaranteed to kick off the party from inside the large, dark Danish forests. The storytelling and melodies are in focus when playing with different instruments and heavy guitar rhythms to create the perfect atmosphere. The stories grow, hiss, and are sung, while the listeners/audience are taken on a host of adventures.

Trold has its roots well planted in the Nordic soil where inspiration is found from a wealth of fairy tales and mythologies. Giants, Gods, the animals of the forest, and the marvelous world of the sea are just some of the places Trold takes the listeners.

When the trolls are on stage, you can be sure that the party will start and the good mood will be kicked off.

Trold debut album is due in 2023.

Erech – all Instruments & vocals
Circe – additional female vocals

Founded in late 2020 by sole member Erech to give home to the ancient tales of the mythical realm Valdura, Ancient Mastery delivers Epic/Melodic Black Metal with symphonic undertones. On his albums mastermind Erech combines melodic Black Metal riffing, triumphant synths and folkish tunes with occasional pop aesthesia, which is amplified by the chthonian timbre of his companion Circe.

While “Chapter One” told about a group of adventurers and their travel to distant Valdura, “Chapter Two” focuses on the arrival of Aryun and his companions in that mythical realm. Unexpectedly drawn into a long simmering conflict between the corrupt government and the resistance in Valdura’s capital Tordal, they meet the female resistance leader Tabe who informs them of the plight they just encountered.

For songwriter Erech the six songs on “Chapter Two” are the logical continuation of the music on the debut, with perhaps a bit less overall focus on straightforward melodic Black Metal and instead playing with influences from Power Metal and atmospheric Black Metal sprinkled with classic Folk songwriting. To that end, and more often than on the debut, the throaty, intoxicating voice of Circe takes center stage besides the raspy Black Metal vocals of Erech, and there she truly shines.

Chapter One, originally released on CD by the Chinese label Pest Productions, is now re-released by Northern Silence in a fully enhanced version with new artwork and layout and including the previously unreleased bonus track “The Ballad of Tiga & Az’daerul”.

Both DigiCDs of „Chapter One” and „Chapter Two” come with their own 12-page fold-out poster booklet with the lyrics on one side and a map of the territory on the other.

The vinyl version of „Chapter One” is out concurrently with the CDs, alongside the LP of „The Chosen One”, released on CD by Northern Silence a year ago. The LP of „Chapter Two” will be released some time in 2023.

Chapters One & Two recorded by Erech.
