VOKODLOK – ORACLE’S FURY (Review by Varg The Mighty )

Romanian Black Metal band Vokodlok have recently released their comeback EP, “Oracle’s Fury”.
This new EP is quite different than their 2003 Full-Length “Mass Murder Genesis” in some aspects. This EP sounds more elaborate, it doesn’t include stolen Marduk riffs and sounds quite well adapted to the current style in Black Metal (in this EP it’s most comparable to modern Kampfar) while still holding on to classic Black Metal.
In an album that has a sound so near to Atmospheric Black Metal in some parts and that is filled with acoustic guitars, it is curious how they managed to make it sound as aggressive as all Black Metal should be.
It is always good to see old bands return to offer us more music, and especially when the new stuff is better than the old one. With a new album expected next year, it shall be interesting to listen what they deliver to us. This is the kind of album that (like all good Black Metal) must be listened to more than once to really know if it’s good, since it becomes more enjoyable with each listen.
You may like this EP if you enjoy old-school Black Metal, but also if you’re a fan of the new sound that modern bands have developed.
