FINAL DAWN – MINÄ OLEN PIMEYS (Review by Varg The Mighty )

Today’s review is of Finnish Black Metal band Final Dawn’s second album.
Starting off fast in a very Finnish way that may remind us of bands like Horna, this album mostly has the simplicity of this style of Black Metal, which combined with catchy choruses gives us songs like “Till The Bitter End” or “Satan’s Hourglass”. On other songs like “Welcome To War” or “Fires Of The North”, you can also appreciate a slight Folk influence, that gives us songs in a style similar to Storm or Enslaved.
Finally, other songs are also quite progressive and experiment with slower tempos and clear vocals, especially on “The Fisherman”, but less on other tracks too. The result doesn’t escape Black Metal entirely, with the main elements still present, but it is notably different to the rest of the album, even to the point of rupturing the main essence. Nonetheless, it is an interesting turn out of the straight line that quickly gets back on track to close-minded, cold and extreme music on the next song of the album.
I recommend this album to fans of Black Metal, Viking Metal and Progressive Black Metal. My rating is of 8,5/10.
