CALES – CHANTS OF STEEL ( Review by Varg The Mighty )

Today’s review is of Czech Blackened Heavy Metal band Cales’ new single.

After a long wait, the project has returned, delivering 2 new powerful tracks. On one side we have “Hall Of Death”, sung by Blackosh (Root, Master’s Hammer, Nifelheim, etc.), perhaps the most Black Metal of both, including clear Bathory influences and a heavy atmosphere.

On the other side, the title track is sung by Nifelheim’s Hellbutcher and takes a more Epic Heavy Metal approach, which differs from his usual style and brings to mind bands like Manilla Road or Cirith Ungol. Overall the release is pretty decent, with both tracks having their unique sound and being somewhat memorable. Nonetheless, after such a long wait the tracks don’t really stand out that much, but more sword & sorcery themed Heavy Metal is always a great listening.

I recommend this release to fans of Blackened Heavy Metal and Epic Heavy Metal. My rating is of 8/10.
