Grimalkin Records March Releases

March 11, 2022: Spartan Jet-Plex aka Nancy Grim Kells (they/them), the founder and facilitator of Grimalkin Records, is releasing a handmade mixtape called My Way.

"2021 was a rough year, and by the end of it, I could see that the past year had paid an unfortunate toll on many folks in my life, including myself. Loop Sessions DMV, a monthly event, was a small bright spot for me that began in February 2021. I participated in the monthly events in the DMV chapter along with three additional sessions via Loop Sessions Montréal. Through the monthly events, I met many wonderful musicians and beatmakers, learned a lot about different musicians and bands from folks who selected the monthly crates, and challenged myself to stretch as a musician. Most of all, it has been a ton of fun.

This album features all of the Loop Sessions tracks that I created over the past year (2021) and in the order that they were made. Together they tell a story of the ups and downs throughout this past year and create a story of struggle, hope, and faith through dark and troubling times. I am also not a traditional beatmaker and so they also approach the idea of sampling and song creation through the use of sampling and sample packs in a nontraditional way.

This album releases via Grimalkin Records. I made a limited amount of handmade mixtapes and of this album to sell on Bandcamp. Proceeds support Grimalkin Records' current fundraisers.

Watch the video for tracks 11 and 12: Holy Unholy and I Am Stone, which release with the pre-order for My Way on February 4, 2022. You can also check out the single video version of I Am Stone here."

"Loop Sessions assembles Beat Builders under one roof for a gathering of music production and networking. Using the equipment of their choice while sampling from the same vinyl, participants have a few hours to put their creation together. There's no contest; just creative content!"

March 18, 2022: Rafael de Toledo Pedroso (they, he) is an experimental multimedia artist working in Ponta Grossa, Brasil. They are half of the duo’s Pedroso & Pedrosa and A/C Repair School and work on many other projects ranging from noise to hip-hop. Regardless of the genre of music they are delving into, Rafael’s style is characterized by vulnerable lyrics, dark and eccentric storytelling, dissonant and unique sounds, and blending bizarre concepts with several Brazilian rhythms.

Coração de Pássaro (Bird Heart) is a concept album about the death of Paula, Rafael's mother, who died in Oct. 2020 after battling a neurological condition. The album focuses on Rafa's mourning process with somber lyricism, filled with dirges and lamentations. The music blends Brazilian funk with MPB (Popular Brazilian Music), all achieved with an experimental mindset making the resulting tracks quite dark and unique. A somber love letter about the complexity of the mourning process and how painful and liberating it can be. Rafael is joined by talented musicians such as Pedro Pedrosa (from Pedroso & Pedrosa), Amanda Jacometi (from Power Puff Girl Sound), Carolina Simionato (from A/C Repair School) and Igor Riscado to create melancholic and experimental Brazilian funk tracks that make you want to cry and dance at the same time.

Artist receives 75% of all proceeds of digital only sales. The remaining 25% supports Grimalkin's label and mutual aid fund and helps us towards sustaining our work.
Tape proceeds go to Network Women's Fight Against Cancer Ponta Grossa (Women's Network to Fight Cancer of Ponta Grossa).
All proceeds from the sale of lathes fund physical releases of other artists on Grimalkin Records. We break even if all of them sell.

February 2022:

February 18, 2022: Dani Lee Pearce (she/her) is a Pacific Northwest-born nonbinary trans creature currently living in the Midwest who has been releasing music online since 2011. Many of her songs were written during a 5 year period she was homeless, and lyrical subject matter ranges from that experience to drawing from dreams, fantasy, folklore, witchcraft, mythology, history, intense emotions, the spiritual, the mysterious and the macabre.

Her music has ranged across a multitude of moods and textures, beginning with very loose and experimental compositions and transitioning through keyboard-based prog to synth-rooted progressive pop with a distinct queer ethos. She became connected with Grimalkin Records in 2019 and her 16th and newest album, Spider Mountain, is her second release with the label.

Artist receives 75% of all proceeds of digital only sales. The remaining 25% supports Grimalkin's label and mutual aid fund and helps us towards sustaining our work.
Per Dani, proceeds from tapes support Grimalkin Records and are used for artist and release development.
Lathe proceeds go back to Grimalkin and we break even if they all sell.
