DESULTORY – INTO ETERNITY ( Review by Varg The Mighty )

Today’s review is of Swedish Death Metal band Desultory’s debut album, celebrating its recent rerelease.

This cult classic offers the same aura as most other albums of the first wave of this legendary genre, with an added rawness that brings Carnage to mind. As other albums of the genre and region, it offers a notable amount of melody and technique besides the aggression to add some sense of mystique and even a certain darkness with the exact quantity added as to not become too tiresome.

The band’s debut also may remind the listener of the early Entombed and Dismember albums, for it has the same subtle elegance under the violent sonority. Nonetheless, the full-length also has its own identity and it is definitely worth listening as to get a broader perspective of the wave and bathe in yet another of its sublime sonic offering’s grandeur. My personal highlights are the title track and “Visions”.

I recommend this album to fans of Swedish Death Metal. My rating is of 9/10.
