OATH – HALLOWED ILLUSIONS (Review by Varg The Mighty )

Today’s review is of Scottish Heavy Metal band Oath’s new album.

This release offers a heavily Iron Maiden-influenced approach of soaring melodies galloping over upbeat riffs, combined with a merry touch of Hard Rock that drives the songs through synth elements into a clear NWOTHM result.

Perhaps some tracks, especially considering the vocal performance, remind of Haunt, though each song of this album has a unique touch of personality. It is also worth noting the surprisingly raw recording of the full-length, which brings to mind the most underground acts of the early 80s. Perhaps one of the release’s weaknesses is the short length of each track, that causes some to sound as if their ideas weren’t fully explored. Nonetheless, it’s an enjoyable old-school piece of metal that fans of NWOTHM should easily enjoy. My personal highlights are “Disposable” and “Bedsit Symphonies”.

I recommend this album to fans of Heavy Metal and Hard Rock. My rating is of 8/10.
