FOGOS – CORPSES AND ASHES (Review by Varg The Mighty )

Today’s review is of Catalan Black Metal band Fogos’ debut album.

This release offers an incredibly straightforward and aggressive kind of Black Metal that combines the clear elements of an average Spanish Black Metal act with a Dark Funeral-oriented approach that is most prevalent in the vocal performance.

This full-length is utterly relentless and offers no solace in intros, interludes or quieter parts, and while that may in some cases be enjoyable, in this album it feels like the main cause for a lack of dynamism that inevitably gives a monotonous feeling to many tracks. Nonetheless, towards the end the songs seem to acquire a slightly different aspect with some further depth and darkness while still sounding just as raw and just as old-school (with an extra emphasis in the early 2000s scene). My personal highlights are “Mortis” and “Nyx”.

I recommend this album to fans of Black Metal. My rating is of 8/10.
