Evangelist - Ad Mortem Festinamus (Nine Records Release: 18 December 2020)

Nine Records will release EVANGELIST's Ad Mortem Festimaus December 18, 2020 on CD and limited edition vinyl (300 copies).

In times of doom, EVANGELIST returns with songs of death and destruction. The band was first started in the spring of 2008, with inspiration mainly coming from the obscure epic metal scene in the U.S., epic doom metal pioneers and metal classics in general. Major lyrical inspiration came from the twisted minds of R.E. Howard, H.P. Lovecraft, history, religion and spirituality of the ages gone by.

Their debut album, In Partibus Infidelium, was recorded between 2009 and 2011 and released in June 2011 by PsycheDOOMelic Records. Their sophomore record, Doominicanes, was recorded between 2012 and 2013 and released in May 2013 by Doomentia Records. In October 2014, a collaboration with CAPILLA ARDIENTE troops was revealed in the form of the infamous Capilla Ardiente/Evangelist 12” split on which EVANGELIST delivered their own version of MAYHEM’S classic “Freezing Moon." In December 2018, after a short hiatus, their third album, Deus Vult, was released by Nine Records.

Almost one year later, recording sessions began on two new songs, as well as a rendition of one of MANILLA ROAD'S finest tracks, "Mystification." These three songs were paired with another three tracks recorded during the Deus Vult recording sessions, and will ultimately be released as an EP, entitled Ad Mortem Festimaus.

Track Listing:

1. Perceval
2. Anubis (On the Onyx Throne of Death)
3. The Puritan
4. Pale Lady of Mercy
5. Towards the End
6. Mystification (Manilla Road cover)

Running time: 36 min.

Recorded, mixed and mastered at JRStudio between Anno Domini 2016-2018 (tracks 3-5) and 2019-2020 (tracks 1,2 and 6) in two separate recording sessions by Jacek "Racek" Gruszka. Cover art drawing by Diego Spezzoni. Cover layout and packaging design by Xaay.

ZED DESTRUCTIVE – CORRODED BY DARKNESS ( Review by Varg The Mighty )

Today’s review is of Israeli Black Death Metal band Zed Destructive’s debut album.
The band lean much more towards Death than towards Black Metal, with the latter only being present as little hints on songs like the title track or “Evil Wind”. On most of the album, the band play some well-produced, modern Death Metal that may sometimes lean towards Brutal Death Metal as on “Repulsive Society”, but most than anything, they play like the current style of Melodic Death Metal of bands like Children Of Bodom or In Flames.
The concept is ok, but the songs feel really typical and barely original. Besides, this 11-track album (that includes a decent cover of Deicide’s “The Truth Above” sounds excessively long. The idea seems to be as if Arch Enemy met Dimmu Borgir, but with all the characteristics of this composition being pretty common, listening to the whole album may become egregious. Nonetheless, it seems like something that may become of interest for a larger audience of the likes of Nuclear Blast fans, but for fans of underground Extreme Metal this isn’t quite what I’d recommend.
I recommend this album to fans of Black Death Metal and Melodic Death Metal. My rating is of 7,5/10.

PNEUMA HAGION stream NUCLEAR WAR NOW! debut album at Friedhof-Magazine.com

Today, death metal primitivists Pneuma Hagion stream the entirety of their highly anticipated debut album, Voidgazer, at heavily trafficked web-portal Friedhof-Magazine.com. Set for international release on December 1st via Nuclear War Now! Productions on vinyl LP format, hear Pneuma Hagion's Voidgazer in its entirety exclusively HERE.

Pneuma Hagion once again joins forces with Nuclear War Now! to release its debut full-length, Voidgazer. The band and label first collaborated in 2015 to bring forth the first Pneuma Hagion demo, Trinity I, and resumed their allegiance approximately three years later with the release of the Trinity LP, which compiled that original demo and the two ensuing demos in the series.

Like the earlier recordings, Voidgazer presents a starkly monolithic variety of death metal that reflects the emptiness personified in the title. The sound itself evokes the same stifling oppressiveness of Incantation and Immolation, as it alternates between fast tempos and bludgeoning doom passages, firmly aligning itself with one of the most revered schools of U.S. death metal. Perhaps most impressively, all instruments and vocals are performed by the lone member of Pneuma Hagion, unassumingly known as R., whose gnostic reflections pervade the lyrics that are animated by his own tortured voice.

The sum of these nine tracks is certain to endear Voidgazer to any dedicated adherent to the worship of the bleakness of human existence.

In the meantime, hear Voidgazer in its entirety exclusively HERE, courtesy of Friedhof-Magazine.com. Cover and tracklisting are as follows:

FFO early IN-FLAMES, BEHEMOTH, KATAKLYSM
Sahil Makhija aka Demonstealer has released a brand new song and video off of his upcoming EP titled, 'And This Too Shall Pass' via his Facebook. 'No God will save you' screams Makhija halfway into this scathing, blastbeat-heavy ripper that channels Makhija's abject hatred for religion and all the ill it's spawned. Makhija adds, “It refers to humanity and how we're almost like a cancer on this planet; how we've created God, religion and blinded the masses with these man made creations. The Festering Wound is now available to stream on Demonstealer's Facebook page [HERE] and YouTube [HERE].

The 4-song EP is being self-released with the help of a crowd-funding campaign that Makhija personally set up in July earlier this year. It was the COVID-19 pandemic and the resultant lockdown in the country that provided Makhija with a new perspective and the inspiration to write new music. And This Too Shall Pass sees Makhija return to his absolute roots. All music on And This Too Shall Pass has been written, played and recorded by Makhija — making it truly a solo effort.
And This Too Shall Pass releases on 11th December, 2020. Pre-orders for the digital release are now available on the band’s Bandcamp [HERE]. The EP will be available on all streaming services including YouTube, Spotify and Apple Music.

SOMBRE ARCANE - "Ancestral Seat of the Barovian Scourge" (Dungeon Synth)

US dungeon synth act SOMBRE ARCANE has unveiled their newest video for the track, "Ancestral Seat Of The Barovian Scourge." The song was released on 10/24 on the Wrought Records Halloween compilation entitled The Reliquary of Terror.  The video made its debut on October 30 at Decibel Magazine HERE:

Phranick and Naginah of SOMBRE ARCANE perform a macabre ritual to summon the mists of Barovia as a means of conveyance to Castle Ravenloft.
This song is inspired by a playthrough of the Ravenloft Dungeons & Dragons module that the band played through during a campaign they have been playing together for about 8 years.

SOMBRE ARCANE:
Shane Hall (Phranick): Synths And Guitars
Josh Pratt (Naginah): Kantele

SOMBRE ARCANE hails from Massachusetts, and released their self-titled demo in August of 2018. One of the earliest American proponents of live dungeon synth, SOMBRE ARCANE has offered a number of rituals to the public, incorporating video, costume, and elaborate staging to make the audience feel like they are peering into the window of an alchemist’s workshop.

What others have said about SOMBRE ARCANE:
"Crafting their sound with synths and strings, SOMBRE ARCANE offers a well crafted journey through the dungeons, infusing their music with folk, fantasy ambient and balladry for a thoroughly immersive experience.“
- Adam Matlock of ‘Nahadoth’

"SOMBRE ARCANE are a dungeon synth duo who are trailblazing new paths in the genre. Hailed as one of the best live DS acts on the planet, the wizard Phranick and the bard Naginah put on a spectacular show filled with magic. Incorporating live medieval instruments into bombastic orchestral arrangements, their sound is immediately recognizable and unforgettable! “
- Jason Shook of ‘Guild of Lore’

“High in presentation and composition, this release is in the centre of a Venn diagram with dungeon synth on the left and a neo-folk ambient on the right.” - CorkonianHunger

“SOMBRE ARCANE is one of the most promising dungeon synth acts out there, and they’re not afraid to step outside the boundaries” -_NS_
