NORDJEVEL – FENRIIR ( Review by Varg The Mighty )

 

Today’s review is of Norwegian Black Metal band Nordjevel’s upcoming new EP, out on May 7^th.

The release consists of 2 exclusive tracks, a track that will be featured on their next album, a curiously adapted cover of Possessed’s “Fallen Angel” and a nice live performance of “Det Ror og Ror”.

The title track combines their usual aggressive assault of true Black Metal in the likes of legends like Dark Funeral or Marduk with a purer Norwegian sound and hints of Folk, bringing Storm or Mork to mind when listening to it. On the other hand, both “Gnawing The Bones” and “Rovdyr” remind much more of their previous album, “Necrogenesis”. Overall, the EP portrays an excellent band as they continue to evolve without forgetting their roots or own style. Thanks to catchy guitar riffs, a vocal performance that gets well combined with the music and perfectly one of the best drummers there is doing what he does best, this release has some great songs, serving as an excellent foretoken of their third album.

I recommend this album to fans of Black Metal. My rating is of 9,5/10.

SUIDAKRA - "Wolfbite"

 

After more than 25 years of history and more than 13 studio albums as well as worldwide tours, can a band reinvent itself or even release the unexpected? Well, SUIDAKRA may not reinvent themselves completely in 2021, but on their new album "Wolfbite" they create a mixture of all their past musical work and a fresh breeze, which gives the impression that the band has risen from a fountain of youth.

"Wolfbite" is bursting with power, uncompromisingness, and joy of playing. The collaboration with Aljoscha Sieg (Eskimo Callboy, Vitja, Gestört aber GeiL), which is certainly untypical for die-hard fans, results in a breathtaking, lively even old fans probably wouldn't have dreamed of. 

With "Wolfbite", SUIDAKRA succeed in traveling from the past into the future and surely present one of THE albums of the year 2021.

Three friends, one goal: heavy metal. Zbigniew, Adam and Krzysztof took the prosperous guitarist, Michał, under their wings and formed IRONBOUND. After recruiting Bartosz to take over vocal duties they record their first EP – „She Devil”. They started to follow this direction, even though Bartosz decided to exit the speedy train not long after releasing the EP. However, on their adventure course the band members were quickly approached by Łukasz and the and became stronger than ever with the new lead singer. „The Witch Hunt / Lifesblood” single from 2018 was a harbinger of what a band was going to deliver – their first full album „The Lightbringer” will have its premiere on April 30th 2021 and it’s sure to assuage the hunger of every metal maniac craving for some good, oldschool NWOBHM vibes.
