 ENGLISH:
Fogos is a black metal band from Barcelona formed in 2021 with the purpose of practicing a direct, raw and aggressive style, full of energy, and designed to shake the listener. This sound so characteristic of the Nordic waves of the nineties has led them to be
described and compared in their style to bands like Marduk, Gorgoroth, Carpathian
Forest or Deathspell Omega, from which they have received a strong influence.
The band is formed by four musicians with a lot of experience in the local scene, all of
them ex-members of other bands with a long trajectory such as Abrahel, Blazemth, Erial
or Obsidian Kingdom.
The band’s concept embraces the ancestors, paganism and the purification of the fire from
which the band’s name, Fogos, comes from: the fire that illuminates and builds, but also
destroys, as the origin from which the band starts to cover the main themes they deal with:
fatalism, nihilism, death and the human psyche.

DAIDALOS – THE EXPEDITION ( Review by Varg The Mighty )

Today’s review is of German Symphonic Black Metal project Daidalos’ debut album.

This release offers a highly orchestrated approach that delivers a maximum amount of grandeur throughout long and intense tracks. Nonetheless, this level of symphony comes at the cost of a great amount of the release’s Black Metal nature, making it lean more towards completely Symphonic Metal with just a touch of darkness and a faster tempo.

While some songs offer a pleasant kind of epic for Extreme Metal fans, it feels as if the orchestration occupies too big of a spectrum in the mix, completely concealing the guitars. If you want a sonic expedition through a vast bleak sea of harmony and sorrow, check this album out. My personal highlights are “Sail Into The Stars” and “Poem In The Snow”.

I recommend this album to fans of Symphonic Metal and Symphonic Black Metal. My rating is of 8/10.

INFIDEL RISING – A COMPLEX DIVINITY ( Review by Varg The Mighy)

Today’s review is of American Progressive Power Metal band Infidel Rising’s upcoming new album, out on September 30th.

This release mainly lies on a Power Metal direction, though at times it jumps fully into Progressive Metal territories with even some slight Djent influences. The album omits Power Metal’s jests to offer a serious version of the genre that leans even more towards musicianship.

While some songs are intense and powerful ballads are also included, there seems to lack a driving force to offer compact catchiness to the full-length, and in consequence certain tracks also feel too long. Nonetheless, it delivers a good atmosphere that may appeal to many fans of Power Metal, and all musicians display a good array of virtuosity that is not there just for talent’s sake, instead being well incorporated in the song writing. My personal highlights are “Let Wisdom Speak” and “Follow Your Light”.

I recommend this album to fans of Power Metal and Progressive Metal. My rating is of 8/10.

OATH – HALLOWED ILLUSIONS (Review by Varg The Mighty )

Today’s review is of Scottish Heavy Metal band Oath’s new album.

This release offers a heavily Iron Maiden-influenced approach of soaring melodies galloping over upbeat riffs, combined with a merry touch of Hard Rock that drives the songs through synth elements into a clear NWOTHM result.

Perhaps some tracks, especially considering the vocal performance, remind of Haunt, though each song of this album has a unique touch of personality. It is also worth noting the surprisingly raw recording of the full-length, which brings to mind the most underground acts of the early 80s. Perhaps one of the release’s weaknesses is the short length of each track, that causes some to sound as if their ideas weren’t fully explored. Nonetheless, it’s an enjoyable old-school piece of metal that fans of NWOTHM should easily enjoy. My personal highlights are “Disposable” and “Bedsit Symphonies”.

I recommend this album to fans of Heavy Metal and Hard Rock. My rating is of 8/10.
