Interview with Sight of Luna by D.C (Philippines)

How did the group come up with their name?

•Nat: There's a famous saying that whenever the moon is full, it implies hallucination, lunacy, but at the same time artistry. So the band's name is basically incorporated with the moon and what it's known for.

And can you give us an insight into your music and the style?

•Rex : Absolutely, the band has no limits. We make songs that are out of the box. Reason why we categorize ourselves as avantgarde is we are unconventional but still we try to put in the things that interests us altogether, like, goth, metal, progressive even some elements of jazz. We are still goth metal in totality but not the typical type of goth metal, we want to have spice on to it, exploring other genres we can use to make our songs different from each other, but still very catchy.
•Yuber: Avantgrade, dark metal and 2 vocal types (beauty and the beast type) .
• Julius: To me, I would say it's heavy metal music combined with a dark atmospheric mood. We use different influences in the metal genre and combine those elements to make our music sound unique. The combination of clean and demonic voices sort of gives a vampiric vibe like in horror movies.

And what are the type of drumming techniques that  approach I'm writing techniques that the group tends to use?How supportive is your community with your group there in the Philippines?

•Monika: I would say they are quite supportive. Though it may not be mainstream here in our country there is quite a large community in the underground that actively participate in gigs and events.
• Yuber: We have a  large number of supporters from the underground scene here in the PH, although in comparison to mainstream music here have more recognitions and exposures..
• Julius: People in the scene are like our own brothers and sisters, they support us as much as they can. I also observe that other bands treat us like batch mates and it doesn't matter if our music seems different from the usual metal genres that they are used to hearing. It's no competition.

And who are your influences?

•Monika: my main influences are Within Temptation, Nightwish, The Gathering and Lacuna Coil. Sharon den Adel is my main vocal hero..i adore her to bits.
•Nat: The list is long for me, Bjork has been my favorite ever since, then Nightwish, Nina Hagen, Angelspit, Psyclon Nine, Skynd, Die Antwoord, Igorrr and Corpo Mente. I could listen to them all day and dream of someday being able to make music with this kind of genre.
•Rex: Therion, Spiral Architect.
• Yuber: as a keyboardist, my main influences are: My Dying Bride, Cradle of Filth, Nightwish, Swallow the Sun, L'ame Immortelle, Psyclon Nine, Blutengel, Dark Sarah... mixture of Doom, Symphonic, Industrial, Synth music and theatrical
• Louie Von: As my part as Sight of Luna's guitarist,  I apply some of my classical, blues and rock stuff as I think it perfectly blends with the genre of the band, and then some of my influences  like Yngwee J. Malmsteen, Daniele Gottardo and Andy James.
I try to adopt most of their ideas.. that's all folks• Jaz : Tool, Korn, Dream Theater, Kamelot, Lamb of God.
• Julius: As a group we have different influences that we put in and use as reference material in our music like Epica, Nigthwish etc. As for my style, i just listen to various jazz artists, classic rock and metal bands  like Al Jarreu, James Ingram, Marcus Miller, Pantera, Metallica, Tool, Korn, Drowning Pool. As for the local band influences, I listen to, Slapshock, Skychurch, Greyhoundz, Bamboo and Kamikazee.
