1.Deimler is a Spanish band that have just began their career and have recently offered us some promising songs, and today we have an interview with them about debut EP, “Zero One”. How are you doing?
Hello, delighted to answer this interview, I am Pako Deimler, responsible for all the composition, writing and recording of the music of DEIMLER, the rest of the band is only supporting the live performance. Technically DEIMLER has existed since 1998, we were active for about 5 years, with another line-up, there is no official recording from that time, we do have some archives in home and live plans, but nothing professionally recorded. I decided to resurrect the band in 2018, I am the only founding member left.
2.Great to hear. What inspired the band’s name?
The name of the band is something we came up with, it doesn't mean anything, DEIMLER is the first machine not manufactured by humans capable of creating human life without their help, it is a biomechanical entity with intelligence and a life of its own that does not depend on humans. This is a meaning that I have given to the name DEIMLER.
3.Which are the main influences of the band?
When creating music I always look for something simple and direct, with a very melodic and catchy part, which will always help to remember the song, without leaving the Old School, which for me, is the basis of everything, adding a bit of technique. without reaching progressive metal but setting defined guidelines within the style, without plagiarizing anyone and thus achieving music with personality and character as you can see in our Ep.
DEIMLER is an Old School Death Metal, based on the bands that forged this beautiful musical genre, DEMILICH, CARNAGE, ADRAMELECH, DISMEMBER, AVULSED, FUNEBRE, NECROPHILIAC, ENTOMBED, CARTILAGE, DEATH, OBITUARY or GRAVE, among other influences.
4.What made the band play this particular style?
Death Metal I have always liked a lot, especially Old School, but the one that I am most passionate about in Finnish and Swedish Death Metal, I have always wanted to make this type of music, the mixture of melodies, half times combined with fast times and I think the heavy and crushing sound is something wonderful, it is the perfect mix, with the ideal balance.
5.Do you hope to play live soon?
Yes, of course that is the idea, take DEIMLER to the live as much as possible, it is important to play live, be in contact with people, playing live makes you have an active mind and body, it is always good, we are looking for where to play but it is complicated with the current situation.
6.In which country or city would you love to play live and why?
The idea is to play anywhere, the whole planet would be a good place hahaha, we don't set limits, we have plenty of desire and enthusiasm.
7.How was the writing process like for this EP?
The composition and writing process was long and laborious, I have composed, written and recorded everything by myself, two guitar lines, bass, voice and melodies, the drums not luckily hahaha, so you can imagine, having to do the work of 4 people, but it's something I like to do, I'm passionate about creating Old School Death Metal.
8.What are your lyrics mostly based on and what inspired the EP’s title?
Apparently the lyrics are based on science fiction stories, they have a cinematic background from the late 70s, 80s and mid 90s, but in reality they are everyday stories, told differently. "Zero One" refers to the beginning of everything, the zero moment, followed by the first step.
9.Why did you decide to cover a song by Avulsed?
AVULSED has always been present in my life, their music has always accompanied me, they are also living legends of the musical history of our country, their music is a good influence, what better example as a cover letter?
10.What does the EP cover represent?
It is the birth of the first being with human DNA created by a totally autonomous machine, no human has been part of that creation, independent artificial intelligence.
Jose Antonio Vives is the artist who created the art, I am very happy with the result.
11.Are there any future plans besides this new EP at the moment?
Yes, of course, right now I am in the process of recording 9 new songs, the drums are already recorded, they have been recorded by Gabriel Artina, who becomes part of the DEIMLER family, they have been recorded at Moontower Studios, once again Javi Félez is the producer.
Once we have the new album ready we will try to move it live with the Ep "Zero One", if the current situation allows us.
12.Thanks for the interview, is there anything else you would like to add?
Thank you for the opportunity to appear in Bathory Zine, thank you for your time, greetings to all who have somehow made it possible for "Zero One" to have seen the light, health and strength.Image
