MIND ERASURE – CONNIVE (Review by Varg The Mighty )

Today’s review is of Greek Blackened Death Metal band Mind Erasure’s debut album.

This album combines a furious yet modern Blackened Death Metal approach with Progressive elements and clear vocals which may also bring to mind some Atmospheric Death Metal acts. Some songs even seem to have some early Katatonia influences, but the overall feeling goes in a direction that is more comparable to Black Metal, even if below this darkness the base is constituted of Progressive Death Metal principles.

As a result of this amalgamation, the album sounds fresh, curiously natural, epic and mystical. The listener will feel a wave of wrath over which a beautiful night sky crumbles under powerful riffs. Perhaps another fair comparison may be with Septic Flesh, given the similar display of Hellenic might and obscure beauty. While it may be more focused more towards fans of moderately melodic subgenres, many listeners of Extreme Metal which don’t mind some elegance if it allows some obscurity may also like it. My personal highlights are “Azrael” and “Sore Eyes”.

I recommend this album to fans of Blackened Death Metal, Progressive Death Metal, Symphonic Death Metal and Melodic Black Metal. My rating is of 8,5/10.
