FINAL CRY – THE EVER-REST ( Review by Varg The Mighty )

Today’s review is of German Melodic Death Metal band Final Cry’s upcoming new album, out on March 18th.

With their Thrash roots being now almost invisible, the band delivers icy Melodic Death Metal about mountainous demise with their origins only serving as a boost to make some riffs more aggressive. Instead, the main aura here is of epic catastrophe, synth-prevalent technical riffs and harsh vocals.

While most songs have a powerful presence and some catchy riffs, it may not appeal to listeners of genres too distant of Melodeath. This hymns of tragedy may remind of certain acts of the 90s, but with a modern twist that reeks innovation. It’s always good to see a band change their direction and step out of their comfort zone, but fans of their early style may not be pleased with this full-length, although a different audience may appreciate its grandeur. My personal highlights are “Down The Icefall” and “Into The Whiteout”.

I recommend this album to fans of Melodic Death Metal. My rating is of 8/10.
