MACABRE DECAY – INTO OBLIVION ( Review By Varg The Mighty)

Today’s review is of Swedish Death Metal band Macabre Decay’s new album.

Although this release contains fierce amounts of melody, this doesn’t make it stray from pure OSDM. In no instance is this album an offering of Melodic Death Metal. Instead, it may be viewed as a pretty melodic descendant o the Swedish masters (such as Dismember or Grave).

Their frontal assault of wretched and gory Extreme Metal never faulters, and thanks to catchy riffs and good musicianship great tracks emerge from this full-length. Fans of classic Swedish Death Metal now have yet another great release in an impecable genre with which they may continue to assert their genre’s unquestionable superiority upon any other form of Death Metal. My personal highlights are “Icon”, “Altered Flesh” and the title track.

I recommend this album to fans of Swedish Death Metal. My rating is of 8,5/10.

GRAVE GNOSIS – LUX NIGREDO ( Review by Varg The Mighty )

Today’s review is of American Atmospheric Black Metal band Grave Gnosis’ new album.

This release is really enveloping, and although for most listeners it may be too long to check out on a single play, the tracks have an odd darkness that may make it worth it. Recorded in a much rawer way than most albums of this subgenre, the resulting sound is pretty strange and for some may be uncomfortable, while fans of Raw Black Metal will be overcome with joy, especially thanks to the composition too.

These long songs have an original and hypnotic aura that remains constant throughout the multiple shifts in the music, giving the full-length a strong consistency. This release is very different to most Atmospheric Black Metal albums up to now, and their unique approach is interesting. My personal highlights are “Astovidat” and “Necrosophia”.

I recommend this album to fans of Atmospheric Black Metal and Raw Black Metal. My rating is of 8,5/10

RAMCHAT – ZNELO LESOM (Review By Varg The Mighty)

Today’s review is of Slovakian Pagan Metal band Ramchat’s new album.

Combining the raw power of bands like Pocculus, Falkenbach or Skyforger with a slightly more modern appproach to the genre in the likes of Kampfar, the band has achieved the creation of a strong album with definitely no fillers in sight. It mostly tends towards a less raw kind of Blackened Folk Metal with good production and elaborate and beautiful passages that don’t hurt in any way its extremity (take for instance “Ladová Plán”, but the composition also displays clear traces of fresh and classic melodies influenced by rawer releases.

This release may also remind of more modern acts, especially the style of Polish bands, but their sound is quite unique and well developed. Thanks to a good musicianship, dark atmospheres that reminisce the times of nature’s stronger reign have been perfectly achieved on this full-length. My personal highlights are “Loz A Zlc” and “Cesta”, but the whole release is recommendable.

I recommend this album to fans of Blackened Folk Metal and Pagan Metal. My rating is of 9,5/10.
