Interview with Bobby Gustafson by Didac López

> 01 - Hello, first of all, thank you for answering this little interview for Bathory´zine.

Your very welcome.
>
> 02 - After Overkill's departure because of your differences with D.D. Verni, I lost track of you. I have seen that you have been in several bands ?.

Yes I was busy trying to get in music but nothing worked out. People thought I did nothing but I did a lot actually. From Cycle Sluts, I4NI,Grip, Skrew and Response Negative. And a solo or two here and there.
>
> 03 - Why form a band like Satan's Taint without some stable members (I think the only fixed one is now the drums)?
At some point when we're older. The road for some players isn't possible. And I wanted many great players to maybe get on a cd is it wasn't available to them. Maybe kick start a career for someone.

>
> 04 - Right now I am listening to your second album and that guitar sound could only be yours. When I have seen the video where you play with the band "Made of Metal" I have had the creeps. Will you continue playing those songs apart from those of your band?.

No that was just for fun. Many of those friends have been in Satans Taint. Just friends.
>
> 05 - What are the lyrics of your songs talking about, are you the only composer?

Yes I write them. Dan one of the singers help on a song. I cover Viking themes. Religion ,war ,revenge.
>
> 06 - What can you tell us about your second album Destruction Rite (2019)?

Well the drummer is the same Jim McCourt is my guy for sure. I used two singers. I wrote all the music ,played bass as well. Financed it myself and released through Megaforce. I'm very proud of it overall. New sounds but an old school feel.
>
> 07 - What can you tell us about your second album Destruction Rite (2019)? What can fans expect with this new album?.

Ritual is me in all ways. Diverse as far as songs. Which I have always done. And my guitar tone for sure.
>
> 08 - Which of the 4 albums you released with Overkill do you like the most?.

I'd say Years of Decay. I finally got a guitar sound I was explains for years. And the songs are all strong. Everyone played great.
>
> 09 - What do you think of the current new Thrash scene?

I'm excited. It's the strongest it's been in years. New and old bands.
>
> 10 - You think that in a few years, when the old bands are gone, there will still be a scene within the Metal.

Yes. Metal will be forever.
>
> 11 - Do you plan to come to Europe?

I'd love to with Satans Taint. But for now it will be with Violence.
>
> 12 - Finally, say what you want for the people who read this blog?

I want to thank those that have stayed with me and followed me throughout the years. I appreciate you all. And if you want the first cd or shirts you can go to satanstaintmusic.com

DYING FETUS Post "One Shot, One Kill" Recording Doc

Dying Fetus has posted a fun 12 minute documentary about re-recording their brutal track "One Shot, One Kill." It's a fun look behind the curtain of one of metal's heaviest bands. Here's what the label says about the clip:
“Brutal death metal overlords Dying Fetus have unveiled a mini-doc about the band’s songwriting and recording processes. Filmed at MilkBoy Studios in Philadelphia, PA in 2017 upon the release of Wrong One To Fuck With, the band chronicled the re-recording of their classic track ‘One Shot, One Kill’ with Swedish Producer/Engineer Mattias Nillson.”

Alberta's Decimate MetalFest 2020 Cancelled

Due to the global COVID 19 situation and the uncertainty of events and public gatherings, Decimate MetalFest announces they will be cancelling their 2020 edition. The festival was to be held on June 12-14 to Millet, AB at the Millet Agriplex (5400 45th Avenue) with camping available at the Millet Lions Memorial Campground. Millet, AB is 60kms south of Edmonton and 250kms north of Calgary. For its first two years, DMF has been held in Calgary.
DMF's 2020 line up was scheduled to have an array of 35+ performing acts from many metal sub-genres along with burlesque, comedy, and more from across Canada.

Festival organizer Sloan Voxx issued the following statement:

"Hey everyone, we finally have an update for you. While sitting in limbo through the mess that is our world right now, I was striving to do everything I could to keep the fest going! But after sitting down, a lot of contemplation and a long hard look at what is happening around us, with the heaviest of hearts, I feel that it is in our best interest, and everyone's safety to cancel this year's festival.
There are an array of reasons why we need to make this tough decision, and I sincerely apologize for any disappointment or inconvenience, but our top priority is keeping you all safe. As safety is our primary concern and as the situation worsens, the last thing we want is to be responsible for bringing multiple small groups of people together (regardless of the sanitary precautions we have planned out) and put you in jeopardy of becoming ill furthermore to put your families in jeopardy of becoming ill. We don't want to be part of the problem, we want to be part of the solution.
At this point, we have to ask ourselves: "Is it worth it?". There is so much at stake here both directly and indirectly. As much as I love this festival, its crew, its bands, fans and everything it represents, and as much as I want to fight tooth and nail to make this happen, the answer is "No.". I don't think it's worth it. Potentially endangering even one person is not worth it.
We will still be here to support all other Western Canadian Metal Festival Alliance fests that still may take place (Armstrong MetalFest - AMFLoud as Hell FestivalMetalocalypstick Fest and Hyperspace Metal Festival). We hope that you'll join us in crossing your fingers, toes, legs, eyes, and anything else cross-able for them all that it can happen and their fests are able to move forward!
In addition, everyone who was on the roster for Decimate 2020 has a direct invite to return to play Decimate 2021 if they are able to do so. We have a hold on the Millet Agriplex for the weekend of June 11th, 12th, and 13th, 2021, so mark your calendars, because we're coming back with a vengeance next year, and the rest of the lineup is SICK!!!
I hope you are well and safe. Love you guys."

Previous years of Decimate MetalFest included bands such as: Into Eternity (Regina, SK), Hammerdrone (Calgary, AB), Centuries of Decay (Toronto, ON), Tortured Saint (London, ON), Quietus (Edmonton, AB), SYRYN (Calgary, AB), KOSM (Vancouver, BC), Hazzardous Material Burlesque, (Calgary, AB), School of Rock Calgary South (Performance Band -18), Ninjaspy (Vancouver, BC), Widow's Peak (Calgary, AB), NYLITHIA (Vancouver, BC), Blackwater Burial (Vancouver, BC), Insurrection (Gatineau, QC), Pecado (Calgary, AB), Sludgehammer (Toronto, ON), Gatekeeper (Vancouver, BC), BLQ - Benevolent Like Quietus (Calgary, AB), ODINFIST (Armstrong, BC), Tessitura Official (Edmonton, AB), Filth (Shelby, NC), Insvrgence (Austin, TX), and many more!
Decimate MetalFest is the brainchild of Sloan Voxx of Voxx Promotions, which is destined to become an annual Canadian metal pilgrimage to Alberta, Canada. With the many yearly festivals becoming part of the national metal heritage, Sloan wants Decimate MetalFest to become one of the best-known events alongside the various festivals located within Alberta, and Western Canada. With Voxx Promos booking and promotional experience, and the support of metalheads internationally, there is nothing to stop them from reaching their goal of bringing in the masses and putting on incredible metal festivals for years to come!"

FINAL COIL

On May 1st Final Coil, in conjunction with their label, Wormholedeath, will release the "Convicted Of The Right" EP .
To celebrate the announcement, the band have unleashed an astonishing official video for the track!

‘Convicted Of The Right’ itself is one of the most powerful tracks from The World We Left Behind For Others, both musically and lyrically and the band have filmed a stunning promo video to accompany its release. The video brings to life in harrowing fashion the song’s commentary on the conditioning and indoctrination of young men fed into the military machine. Final Coil front man Phil Stiles spoke to us about the song, ‘Convicted Of The Right’...
“In the song, which opens to the sound of gunfire, we witness my Grandfather, mired in alcoholism, looking back upon his training. As his past merges with his present, he remains resolutely convicted that what he did was right; that the ends justified the means – and, from a certain perspective he was… but then there are men (and women) all around the world who use the same justification for their state-sanctioned actions from their perspective..They can’t all be right, can they?”

The video was created by the same team that brought another track from The World We Left Behind For Others to such vivid life last year - The Last Battle – and there are many suggested links between the two films as Phil explains...

“Shot on the same location, an abandoned military base in the heart of the Leicestershire countryside, we meticulously recreated a squat in which a veteran of an unnamed war would slowly suffer a complete mental collapse. Tormented by visions of past conflicts and a particularly vehement drill instructor; surrounded by the detritus of his attempts to forget the past and unable to contain a sense of utter alienation, he takes refuge in the comforting notion that his past was mandated by a force stronger than the individual. What follows is unclear, but if the character whom we saw running from some unseen foe in the first clip really is the same character we see lurking in the background in the squat, then we can only fear for her safety…”
As mentioned above, this release is the Convicted Of The Right EP, rather than just a single, which means the powerful album track is backed by an array of exciting, exclusive materialThe band travelled down to The Lab in London where they recorded three tracks live in the studio. These vibrant versions of ‘Empty Handed’, ‘Spider Feet’ and ‘You Waste My Time’ will all appear on the new EP and were all captured on film for future video release.

The Convicted Of The Right EP will be released both digitally and on limited edition cassette and provides the perfect conclusion to the incredible journey of The World We Left Behind For Others. The journey of Final Coil however, is just beginning..."

HUMUNGUS

Jack Bauer (vocals) - Peyton Gregory (guitar) - Joseph Granger (guitar) - Wayne Pompey (bass) - Robby Scarce (drums)

Founded in 2010 in Richmond, Virginia, HUMUNGUS are traveling between traditional Heavy Metal and Thrash. The influences are thus also aptly stated with EXODUS, VIO-LENCE, ANTHRAX, MEGADETH, WHIPLASH and numerous other bands of this direction. An American band with American influences - what should go wrong for fans of this genre? Old School Thrash is the slogan! In 2011 they left the world their first demo with two songs and their first release on the local Forcefield Records label. This was a 5-song EP titled "Drinkin' a beer". The band set off on their first East Coast tour. Since then they have done several tours and played at several big festivals. A 7" single followed one year later and finally the debut album "War band" was released on their own in 2015. This album was re-released on KILLER METAL RECORDS in summer 2018. Nine songs are on "War band", which emphasize the direction of the band in terms of style. The band around singer Jack Bauer presents himself fresh and witty. At the present day, not too many bands indulge in a HUMUNGUS – Balls Katalognummer/catalogue number: KMR-CD042 Veröffentlichungsdatum / release date: 13.12.2019 Band/band: HUMUNGUS Titel/title: Balls Format/format: CD/digital Spielzeit/playing time: 39:12 min Stil / style: HEAVY METAL Herkunft / origin: USA style that was unquestionably born over thirty years ago. Free from modern influences, HUMUNGUS present themselves as if they came from that time. With "Raptors in the pit" one week after the release date the foretaste of the second album was released as a video. The videos show a similar humour as the label colleagues MEGA COLOSSUS celebrate. Also check out "Drinkin' a beer" and "War band". Since the last album was released two new members have joined HUMUNGUS: Joseph Granger (rhythm guitar) and Wayne Pompey (Bass guitar). The album was written and produced by Peyton Gregory. The songs were mastered by Dan Randall at Mammoth Sound Mastering. The album artwork was illustrated by Steven Yoyoda.

Metal warriors on a holy quest, Toronto’s AxMinister‘s have unleashed their latest music video to offer to the heavy metal gods ‘The Succubus and The Crucible of Sin’.

About the video:
The video is 4th episode in the band’s planned 5 part series to give fans a visual guide to tell the story of their latest EP “The Crucible of Sin”. The trio has previously released videos  Prey‘ (Eps. 1), Salvation (Eps. 2) and The Trials of Hercules (Eps. 3). All 5 episodes/music videos in the series were produced and directed by drummer Bas Majzoub (aka Bas von Bismark).

Drummer Bas Majzoub (aka Bas von Bismark) adds:
“Starting with a concept, this two-plus year journey starts reaching an exciting climax in this fourth episode. Seeking revenge, our hero battles his nemesis in a brutal no holds barred sword fight, while his captive wife fights for her life against a beast of a man. The product of a lot of hard work and passion, the ‘Crucible of Sin’ video series is reaching the apex. The response so far has been humbling, and hope our fans, and those new to the band, enjoy episode iv, ‘The Succubus and The Crucible of Sin’, a song dealing with our moral evolution as a species, and general moral relativism.”

What the press is saying:
"From the drop of the first note, AxMinister pull their ax from stone, brandishing it mightily and powerfully as they dish out shredding sharpened riff after sharpened riff. Thrown in to the mix are face melting solos as well as ever present charging drumming as well as very solid very infectious vocals. Each of the five tracks present within this release are woven together well to provide you with a cohesive and well rounded sound that you will have a hard time getting out of your head. With The Crucible Of Sin, AxMinister gift you with five highly addictive and highly entertaining tracks that you keep coming back to." - Cadaver Garden

"The Crucible of Sin is a great thrash/traditional metal album, showing strong influences from Iron Maiden, Megadeth, Slayer and Metallica to full effect." - Hellbound

"an exciting piece of Thrash Metal. It has a unique touch to it that allows the EP to be memorable, whilst the guitars make it very enjoyable." - Noizze UK

"The stair-step cultural guitar to snare combinations for “The Trials of Hercules” brings out the Manowar fan in us all – while the speedy double kick locomotive aspects to closer “Sanctus Equitus Mortis” surely keep the ears pinned for a closer...It’s clear that you have a solid set of musicians and keen songwriting abilities – so if you want something a bit more dramatic and adventurous in your thrash airings, AxMinister could be that difference maker for you." - Dead Rhetoric

""The Crucible of Sin" is a lyrically-strong (hard & heavy) power metal recording with strong lead vocals, great guitar solos, a slick rhythm section, and inspired songs that will make you want to wave the banner of true heavy metal for all to see!! This is honest to goodness heavy metal that has been made possible thanks to hard work & dedication of true heavy metal maniacs." - Heavy Metal Time Machine

Interview with Pissing Razors by D.C

What are the origins of the band? and did you have another band name before?

Eddy García: According to the origins of the band ... some things inspired me to start pissing the razors and first the people of the original singer dave (crazy pelon) mcnutt ... I had never been in a band before, but he he was always showing the lyrics he had written and they were great and cool! And when I saw a wichita kansas band called Dead Orchestra playing heavy ass shit in a cover club we used to play ... and just running it! He was tired of having to compromise how and what to play in order to play in certain places, and he also wanted to play the guitar! so the first person I asked besides Dave was mat, then brother danny ... so originally me on guitar ... mat bass ... crazy voc ... danny drums ... this evolved into change instrument mid-set in the early days ... go from guitar to drums ... danny from drums to bass ... mat from bass to guitar.

Since when have they known each other?

We've known each other for 30 years ... Mat and Joe longer.

And in what year did they form the group?

I would say we were formed sometime in 94 ... I immediately started writing.

And how long later did it take you just to write original music?

We started playing as soon as we had 8 or 10 songs together, and that didn't take long.

Where did they start acting? And in what other use have they made since they were together?

According to what is written, it is always a group effort that always brought many things to the table, but we as a band put it together ... lately Mat has been the one who brought it ...

Which of you is the one who writes the music and is it a group effort? who writes the lyrics?

Oh Joe writes that most song lyrics also contribute once on a blue moon!

Who are your biggest influences?

All the bands we compare ourselves to!

What is the craziest thing that happened on the tour?

Crazy shit what are you asking! I have to write a book!

Has the CV19 caused touring problems?

CV19 has arrested everyone in the entertainment industry.

What is your composition process?

Song writing process ... group effort to the end.

What is the final direction of this latest album that you are currently working on in the studio? Compared to him?

The direct of the new will cover our entire history and more!

How can your fan base access your music?

All of our music will return to all digital media very soon! Apparently someone was picking up our music when we were not active ... and they took it all away when we got active again! so thanks to our manager terrie and former business partner stan, we have all our music back.

Lucifixion

Lucifixion started out in the latter half of 1989 by Jeremiah Riley and Shane Seegert. The lineup made a few changes until a solid three piece was formed with Jeremiah on drums, Skot Wehman on bass, and Brian Bascom on guitar. Lucifixion ventured into Strawberry Fields recording studio in Swanton, Ohio in 1993. Demon Sacrifice was the resulting demo from these recording sessions. Jeremiah sat in on vocals since there was no permanent growler for the position. Lucifixion shopped the demo around and quickly discovered vocalist T.J. Huling. The band returned to the studio in 1994 to re-record the Demon Sacrifice demo and re-branded it Born Into Death, the first official release from Lucifixion.
After a few lineup changes the role of vocals reverted back to Jeremiah and longtime fan Andy Hamlet joined the band as the first lead guitarist. Lucifixion went back into the studio to record the first full release Indulge in the Macabre in 1996. The album featured 4 reworked songs from Born Into Death and 6 new tracks including the fan favorite Self Inflicted Autopsy. Lucifixion enjoyed several years of local shows and even had the honor of opening up for such national acts as Cannibal Corpse, Gutted, and Exodus.
After yet another round of lineup changes, Lucifixion went into the studio in 2003 to record several demo recordings that have yet to be released. Recently one of these recordings, Split Second, has seen the light of day via digital streaming services. The band experimented with female vocals to fill a growing number of acoustic sections. Maria Seeburger held the vocalist role for several years as Jeremiah continued to support the band with brutal vocals to counter the softer female voice. In 2005 Lucifixion released their third recording, an EP entitled As Evil As Me. The line up during this recording worked for many years together and consisted of Jeremiah Riley, Andy Hamlet, Larry Ray, Maria Seeburger, and Austin Waidelich. As Evil As Me was meant to be a rebirth for Lucifixion. Unfortunately, the group disbanded in 2008 on good terms.
At the end of the ride the band recorded a final 8 tracks for a yet to be released final full-length album. Several of the recordings have been put on YouTube, but no official release was ever finalized. These 8 songs, along with a few other unreleased tracks throughout the years, are still in the works for an official release date.

The band wants to clarify about the TLC song:

The track TLC is an acronym for Terrified Living
Corpses and has yet to be released. The song is a
13-minute piece that reflects on the torture and
genocide during WW2. There is an intro from an Adolph
Hitler speech to set the tone; however, we would like
it to be known that we are not Nazi sympathizers, we
just felt the piece needed some theatrics to help set
the tone and seriousness that we were going for.

JENNER

Members: Aleksandra Stamenković - guitars Marija Dragićević - drums Mina Petrović - bass guitar Anđelina Mitić – vocals

Jenner is the only all-female speed/thrash metal band in Serbia. The band was formed in December 2013 by sisters Alexandra (guitar) and Marija (drums) with the goal of following their influences Judas Priest, Warlock, Grim Reaper... Their friends Andjelina (vocals) and Jana (bass) joined the band and they started covering their favourite songs of bands that are already mentioned. After spending more time together and acquiring Alexandra, they took on a more ferocious and faster sound in the likes of Anthrax, Overkill, Exodus, Agent Steel... After a year of work, Jana were replaced by their current bassist, Mina and girls immediately started working on their own songs. Soon, they released Demo 2015, for the further band promotion and submission to Serbian famous Guitar festival in Zajecar which contained two songs, "Hear the Thunder Roar" and "On the Judgement Day" uploaded only on Jenner's official Youtube channel. The audience in Serbia and even in other countries loved the demo, so they begun working on the debut album. Marija were on a maternity leave for a year, so their good friend Selena Simic (Nemesis, Goatmare and the Hellspades) helped them with some gigs and finishing their debut album "To Live Is To Suffer", soon to be released by french label, Inferno Records.
